The Old Folks Home

My friend Joy was very petite, she had 3 cesarians and her friend also,. What was funny was they had all 3 of their kids at about the same time -as each other maybe weird not funny!!

Which is how I think they got to be friends?

I was born during the cold war. The year my son was born the cold war ended officially with the dismantling of the Berlin wall.

We lived in Roswell in the very early sixties. Dad was part of the team that was building out the missile silos all over New Mexico.

Then we moved to Las Vegas where he worked for a company called EG&G.... Edgerton, Germeshausen, and Grier. Who was a defense contractor and supplied technical personnel for the Atomic Test site... They were doing underground testing by the time we Moved to Vegas... They also provided people for area 51.

Dad said the engineers would set up a picket fence around the test area and would be within three feet of the crater forming.... Bomb would go off then the land woudl fall inward to make a crater... the picket fence would remain.

Deb a finer needle didn't seem to work but I thought of putting a light coat of silicone on the needle. That is helping a lot. I am able to get through the sewing with frustration but not with crying any more.

I should be able to get it done now. I have most of the applique sewn down. After that it will be smooth sailing.

@dsqard I love the drama of the art-deco style, and it translates so well into applique (but it does make for a lot of little fiddly pieces, doesn't it?) I've come to the conclusion that the heavy-duty fusible stuff isn't meant to be sewn through; I have used it on projects that I never intended to stitch, and have trimmed it so that it ends just short of the places where I will be stitching on other things.

Well, 22 pounds of wild muscadine grapes have been converted into 12 jars of jam, and 13 jars of jelly. The jam has set, but the jelly hasn't yet - don't know if it will or not. It's been a fun (if sticky) experiment. Many years ago, my mother tried making grape jelly once. Hers set, a bit too well - it was too rubbery to spread, and had very little flavor, to boot. Whatever other shortcomings mine may have, at least it is grapey!
