In addition to plastic sheeting, I found some decently priced thermal (rubber backed) curtains at Wal Mart. I couldn't afford all at once, so I got some for the bedroom, then later some for the biggest windows in the living room. It took me about a year to get enough for all the windows throughout the house, but that type curtain makes a big difference in both air conditioning, and heating bills. Yes, I keep them closed almost always, however, I have a couple smaller windows in the living room, and one in the kitchen that I open the curtains during the daytime, so my house isn't too dark.

I think I've solved my pumpkin mystery - it had to have been BF's mom. She was over last week to drop off a birthday gift for him, then back yesterday to drop one off for me. There were no package deliveries yesterday. His mom is on my fb so she saw my angry post about the missing pumpkin (and never commented despite a long trail of comments on that post). I know I said once that she can "take anything in the garden" when she comes over so she must have taken that direction to an extreme to take something off a display. The silly thing is if she had just asked for the pumpkin, I likely would have said she could have it. I was angry because I had expended the time and energy and grown the pumpkin to enjoy and it was taken from me with no explanation. I felt violated (I live in the middle of nowhere). I called her last night to thank her for the gift and cake - no comments were made on either end about the pumpkin.

Glad (it seems) the mystery is solved. "Take anything in the garden", to my way of thinking, does NOT extend to seasonal displays in the front of the house. I guess we must be specific and explicit in all that we say...
