The Old Folks Home

As near as I can tell, this was a case of someone "going postal" at a party (remember that expression? Can you believe it's almost 20 years old?) But I agree - punching the guy who ticked a person off I can sort of understand, but killing or wounding a couple of dozen people, many of which probably didn't even know him, is something I can't get my mind around.

Deb, I pray all your loved ones are safe.

Grandma just walked through. I finally asked her if she knew how Jo was doing. She said Mom called her. And Jo laughed shes way across the freeway from all that.... WHEW.

I suspect mom called one of grandmas nieces as well. Shes like the nerve center for that part of the family.

Whew for me... everyone is status quo. Well. there is the Nephew whos wife has been on and off a ventlator for the past month. These are all the children of Grandmas last sister Rose. Rose passed at 96 ten years ago. Rose had eight children by the time she was about thirty two. So she had Great Great grand children when she passed.

"postal" 1986 so next year it will officially be 30 years old. and Yep I remember it .

This was more than postal. The Guy and his wife were prepared. They had taken their six month old baby to the grandma and said they were going for a doctors appointment.

A neighbor had noticed odd activity according to the news. But were afraid to say anything for fear that they were racial profiling.

I don't care who you are what you believe in or white or black or somewhere in between. If I notice something I am going to say something. If I know you I will ask but I will know if you are behaving differently.

I am going to be so glad go home.

I don't want to stir up a storm here but I heard a couple alarming statistics this morning.
There are 90 gun related deaths in the U.S. every day.
There have been 355 mass shootings this year. More than there were days.
There were 2 yesterday. The one in Savannah, GA wasn't on the news because it wasn't spectacular enough.

I don't understand the fear of Islamic terrorists when we have 90 gun deaths a day already. Any additional threats from Islam would be a drop in the bucket.

We have a no fly list. It is to prevent persons with known terrorist affiliations from boarding a plane. Yet, because of our laws, those same people can buy as many guns of any kind in this country whenever they want.
Some state legislatures have passed laws to allow guns in churches, schools and other places of assembly. The only place they're not allowed is where THEY work. In the state house. I wonder why.
They always say it is too soon after a sad event to talk about control.
IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY!!!
When would it not be too soon?

I own guns, I appreciate the second amendment but the NRA and the congressional lobby are out of control.
There were many congressmen expressing their condolences and sending prayers to the victims of yesterday's massacre.
I suggest they pray to be forgiven for taking no action to curb the slaughter.

I "heard" several were legally purchased by the couple, some others were purchased by someone else, who had nothing to do with what happened.

I'm not a debater, but I will say this... if guns are restricted, then only the outlaws will have them, because they will get them any way they can. I'd rather keep my rights to have my guns, than take everyone's away, because we will never keep them out of the hands of those who have no moral compass.

maybe not purchased in the state. but I think assault type weapons are illegal in CA, as well as magazines able to hold more than 50 rounds.

I agree. Am a native Californian. Live next to the Mexican border. I am afraid of guns. Only because I have never been around them.
The only thing I would change is to have a requirement for certification on safety and legal use. Just like a drivers test. I own a shotgun its safely locked up at my house. and will remain so till I can get the nerve up learn to use it clean it and be comfortable with it.
