Well what do you know. Karin has been claiming that both the freeloaders have started laying, while I thought only the other one had. But now I've gotten four eggs today, all different colours. All that's missing now is that Klaara resumes her duties, and we'll be at full capacity. She's forgiven though, since she went into a molt after the hawk attacked her.

But look at these pretties!

....
Nice - and I love the egg basket.

The Egg Skelter is pretty handy, especially with a small enough flock. Now with all birds deciding to start laying simultaneously we'll have to start eating a lot more eggs to not fill that to the max, but it's a pretty neat FIFO system for the eggs when you've got 2-3 layers. I guess 4-5 layers is fine if there are more than 2 people to eat the eggs or you just really don't eat any other protein than eggs.

Sticky traps have been the least effective here. I cannot tell you how many times they've been put down and just flat-out disappeared. The one time it worked in the garage the mouse managed to drag itself to another sticky trap and ended up as a mouse sandwich.

Snap traps work here provided you work the bait into the lever. If you just smear peanut butter on top it gets licked off without activating the trap.

We have also set out bait.

Unfortunately, when you have chickens you will attract feed-snatching rodents.

are you using small sticky traps?

I've found the big ones work best for us, and a little dollop of peanut butter in the middle. Give them a reason to get a little farther on the trap......
