SCG - I don't know how many times people have apologized for a dog putting muddy paws on me or something like that, and I've said, "hey, don't worry about it. With what I do, if all I get on me today is a little mud, I figure I'm doing good!"

I'm afraid I've become a real fuddy-duddy when it comes to gifts. Over the years, I have had to say, Oh, thank you!"

for so many things when what I really wanted to say was, "Look, it's very thoughtful of you to have spent the time picking this out for me, and I do appreciate it. I know you meant well, but I know you don't have money to burn any more than I do, and this time, your time and your money were totally wasted, because this was a total 'miss' with me." For years, I have told family to get me a gift card at Home Depot or Lowe's, and they finally began listening. I know, it's boring, but it means I actually get something I will use.

I'm afraid my kids have gotten as bad as I am. They both told their father that they'd rather have money as gifts this year . . . .

My mother loved Christmas. She never ceased to amaze me with the gifts, or lack of, that she gave. One year we were tight on money. She held an open house. We made a bunch of finger sandwiches, vegetable trays, cookies, pies, etc. ALL of our friends, and family were invited to come by, anytime on that day, stay as long as they wanted, leave when they wanted, but please come by for a little bit to spend time with us. Along with the other goodies, we had coffee, tea, egg nog, and hot chocolate, all buffet style. From about noon until well after midnight, there were lots of people coming, and going. It was fun, and memorable. When they first came out with the spin brush (battery) electric toothbrushes, she tried one, and liked it. She bought scads of them, and gave them as gifts to her church group, her Sunday school class, all her friends, kids, and grandkids. Another year, everyone got a package containing 4 D cell batteries, 4 AA's, and 4 AAA batteries. One year everyone got nice tape measures, except the kids. That year the kids got a gift bag with a good brand of shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and toothpaste. Yes, family always got other things too, but she gave interesting gifts.

LOL ... I say Home Depot Or Lowes. Mom called the other day and was all excited. they had synthetic Alexandrite stones jewelry on QVC. I told her DONT BUY ME jewelry. I could hear her deflate... Please mom I have no place to put it I cant wear it except on special occasions because I eaither smash the rings and they have to be reformed with pliers just to get them off. Watches make me break out.

I dont even have a dresser for my clothes here. I have stopped her trying to buy me clothes. she goes in the womans department At Walmart and gets me a sixteen... in polyester. NOT Even Close size wise. and Polyester has a whole bunch of issues with me.

I have to wear cotton or cotton blends. and I tell her my size is 5x over and over again. Meaning the waste band of a sixteen will just go around one leg.

Get me power tools or a welder if you want to make me really happy. I am totally happy with stuff bought at the Pawn shop. Got my last vaccume there for 20 bucks. Sigh.

Or any gal who wrestles with heavy things.
Here are tools you need to have on hand.

Furniture Dolly just a wood frame with four wheels. I put a rope on it to move bulky things

Hand truck. Even if its stuck to the ground you can get the edge of the hand truck under the edge of the box. Use it as a pry bar to lift the object so you can get a wedge under it.

Crow bar works too

If you can get the heavy object tilted up you can do anything. because the higher you tilt it the more of the weight is supported by the floor.

One time I went to the Aquarium store I had been dreaming about buying a 110 gallon glass aquarium for years. Now I had the money for it. Bought the tank at the store and it took four men to carry it out to my truck for me. 3/8 inch thick glass is HEAVY. 228 pounds empty. When I went to leave they asked me If i had someone at home to unload it. I just said Oh I will get my neighbor to help me. they rolled their eyes and said Good luck.

I also bought an oak aquarium stand for it. Which meant I had to get 228 pounds up on a thirty inch high piece of furniture.

When I got home I took the stand in with the furniture dolly.

Then I brought the dolly back and un fastened the tailgate on the truck. YOu know take the support straps off so the tail gate tilted down not level. The truck bed and tailgate were covered with bed liner. Got in the truck ans started sliding that tank. till it was almost balanced on the lip. Just another four or five inches would have made it teeter.

then my whole job after i got out was to brace and guide the tank as it slid off. That took some muscle but not beyond handling a hundred pound bale of hay. Tank came to rest on one narrow edge in the gravel of the driveway. I pushed the dolly under as far as it would go then tipped the tank up onto the dolly and worked it from side to side till it was centered and balanced. YEP dollys will roll on gravel. Not well but they can be maneuvered. I only had to get it to the asphault about thirty inches. Then pushed it to the sidewalk that goes to the front door.

Then The door sill was an issue. It was almost level with the glass on the aquarium. I pushed the aquarium off the dolly and onto the carpet in the house. Then I went inside and tipped the stand down to meet the bottom of the aquarium. Time for muscle. I tilted the aquairium and the stand till the stands leggs dug into the carpet. then lifted the aquarium from the bottom edge and tilted it at the same time. The stand acted as a fulcrum. By the time I was lifting a hundred pounds worth the aquarium was almost to the tip over point along with the stand and I had to brace to slow the whole thing down till it came to rest.

By that time the Aquarium was 75 percent supported by the stand and all I had to do was shove it into place. Now its in the middle of the living room. One end at a time I scooted it into its position along one wall.

For what its worth ONce the aquiarium is full it weighs 1320 pounds. Not something that should be put on anything but a slab floor without inspection of the joists. If you arent sure a sheet of at least half inch thick or more plywood larger than the foot print of the aquarium helps spread out the weight.

Thank you for the great advice. A few weeks ago at work a female tech and myself came in early to move some old crappy huge filing cabinets out of an office. We had a couple rolling carts on wheels and had emptied the cabinets. They were still very tall and heavy. We managed to tip them over without hurting either one of us, onto the rolling cart and then out to the docks. I was really proud of us. We were sweaty and kinda gross for the rest of the day but we didn't need help.

As far as the box goes, I likely could have made it work had I had the right tools and not been pressed for time.

Either way, we put it together today and I think he likes it.
