It's balmy right now Ron - just over 40 F but, we are supposed to get rain later this week, turning into sleet, and then several inches of snow by Monday. I don't like "several" inches, they usually say a light coating on grassy areas, which morphs into 1-2 in. then 3-5 " then 7-10" etc. I think they do it this way so you get accustomed to the numbers - otherwise a lot of folks might flat line before the first flakes reach the ground. People also think if you have frigid temps - it won't snow. HA!!

You won't get widow maker snow but, dry, fluffy crap can really pile up and blow and drift and make itself very comfortable.

What was it like in the 1997-1998 Winter?

That was the last strong el nino year.

Today they've measured below -40 temps up in the north in Muonio. They interviewed a janitor for the paper, and he said that he was considering wearing long johns tomorrow.

We're only at -25 C (-15F) here at the moment.

Sorry I don't remember that but, in 1984-1985 winter we set the state record for -32 below zero - nothing moved. I don't recall if cars didn't start on our block or no one was crazy enough to go out. Thank goodness the furnace kept working.

The winter of 1984-1985 was a weak La Nina year--the opposite of El Nino so it make sense that you were colder then.

I've sure enjoyed reading your thread today.

Always interesting and entertaining. Thanks for the posts about ice, snow and sub zero weather, I'm warmer already! We've received 2.45 inches of rain since Mon. Our annual rainfall total last year was only 6.45 inches.

LOL on the grow house and comments, but not funny if it's your neighbor. We had a meth lab and drug house up the street from us. So much collateral damage. Stolen mail, property theft, cars and bikes at all hours. Bounty hunters, cops, it was quite entertaining too. The neighbors all banned together and called the cops every time they blinked. Cops could never catch them. When they finally got evicted,they found a full meth lab and hideout in the attic and a tree house look out in the backyard! Total hazmat clean up.
The conversation about rabies was very interesting. When i worked for animal control, we all had to be vaccinated against rabies in case of un-realized exposure. I received 3 shots, 2 weeks apart. Aside from chasing cats, and sniffing myself, the side effects were minimal.

Awe, thank you! YAY for rain! I'm just south of Big Bear mountain, they got more snow this week than they had all year last year. If the storms keep coming as predicted, that might save the diseased forest. I drove past Oroville 2 years ago, it was heartbreaking then! We're also getting a break till Sat, but it's looking pretty ominous right now. Of course! Just in time for afternoon chores!
you're up near Sacramento? 16 inches is a bunch! Sure hope it happens and at only an inch per day or so. Are you in any danger of flooding or sliding where you are? Keep me posted?
