The Old Folks Home

Phew, I'm pooped. So far, we've gotten about a foot of the white stuff in the driveways and walkways during the night. I've been shoveling snow all morning. I hope the plow truck guy comes today already so that he clears up all of the snow that we've gathered in the middle of the parking lot. It should keep snowing until Thursday morning.

We are about to get beat by it, too, Vehve. The weathermen are still arguing over where the heavy band will start and stop - if in it should get an inch an hour starting tonight. I'm working the late shift tomorrow (after the super early shift today) so that should give me plenty of time to get shoveling.

I did another hour of shoveling again... the plow guy didn't want to move the piles I had made because he had the plow part on his tractor, not the scoop. He said he'd be by with the scoop once the snowfall has ended, but for now he's just keeping driveways cleared. Seems pretty reasonable, but it's still annoying that that tractor will move as much snow in a minute as I can move in an hour doing it by hand.

I hear you loud and clear Felix. The house is at the end of the road, in fact the road ends in our driveway. So the plow driver figures too bad and piles up all the snow at the start of my driveway. I've told him off - it is NO effort for him to push the snow four feet farther into the utility easement. But, it is a lot of time and energy for me to shovel by hand and move it away. At least this time it is light, powdery snow. The neighbors all use snow blowers which takes them a lot longer than me during it manually. Ridiculous, powdery snow doesn't tax the body. I just walk back and forth pushing the snow away - it's amazing how little time was spent to do a long driveway. Heavy wet snow or brittle icy snow are entirely different and quite a task. I guess snow blowers can't handle THAT.

Glad to hear winter has finally arrived for you Felix. Wasn't it just a week ago you were complaining about no snow? On the other hand, sorry SCG as I know how much you DON'T like snow. Hope you don't get pounded. I have maybe a foot or so on the ground left over from the past 2 storms, but none forecast for the next week or so. I'm glad that I don't have to shovel the driveway at all... I have a 4 X 4 truck and it just drives right through it and makes tire ruts. I do however have to shovel the front walk and some patio area, as well as the cement walkway from the back porch to the garage.

On a lighter note, I have now experienced my first crushed egg in a pocket. I picked up a slightly damaged egg from the coop and put it in my pocket to carry back to the house. My big dog likes to lean against me while walking and actually push against me when standing still. Before I could move him or the egg, he crushed it. His loss... he didn't get to have it with his dinner as planned... Instead it got rinsed out and down the drain.

Diva, yeah, normally I'd agree with you, but after spending 4 hours shoveling the stuff today, even the powdery snow gets heavy at some point.

Late, yeah, it's good that we got some snow to insulate the ground, too bad we had the cold snap before the snow. But at least now trees and stuff won't take much further damage if it gets cold again. Also, I hope we get some nice skiing tracks made somewhere close by.

I am still circling around freezing... So still very icy :sick. Since it has been so "warm" we haven't had a fire for the past several days..... And then last night I found a window open.

We just started getting our first snow to amount to anything this morning. I am not liking it! Its 33 degrees now, and supposed to get down to 11 tonight...
