The Old Folks Home

You are spot on! Californians seemed to have flooded OR and CO. Taxes are awful on retirement income. Us idiots leave Ca to escape overtaxation, gangs and violence I think.I'm right behind you on the exact same plan. Get this place spruced up and get outta here! TX can be a bit strange on property taxes. Each county is different. Tn and Ky are beautiful and some parts of AK IMO.
Big problem for me...I ain't seen a flying bug in 25 years! Well, cept for flies. Forgot what humidity is.

The thing I don't understand, and never really have,. is folks move away from one place because they want more freedom, less taxes, etc. etc. etc. (I include illegal aliens in this as well) and then once they get to the place they go out of their way to change it into exactly what they left and were trying to get away from! It just blows my mind. The world aint gettin' any larger, and there's very few places left that we can run away to... All the good places have already been mostly ruined... I would absolutely LOVE to move to AK, and if I was 20 years younger, or a few dollars richer, I'd be headed there permanently this coming summer.

I did quite a bit of research on property taxes in TX and it appears to me (Any Texans here, please correct me if I'm wrong!) that the more populated (more schools needed) the higher the property taxes are. So if I were to move out into the boonies (my intention), they wouldn't be that bad. They're pretty standard in KY. I had considered TN as well as they don't have state income taxes, however, their sales taxes are ridiculous and I have several family members who live there and the local and state politics are completely absurd! Not to mention the liquor laws and such... crazy locals for sure! I don't do high heat and humidity well either, but I'm beginning to like cold less and less as I age. Thing is and I always try to remember... I can always throw on more clothes, but once naked, there's nothing more to be taken off.

Let me know when you need some. Right now, all mine are mixed but I will be getting all the breeder pens set up soon. Once they are set up, I will be hatching and may not have as many. Once May rolls around, I'll be done hatching and should have some then.

That's great info LS! Thanks! I did some hunting this am and found this site where you can compare up to 5 states. http://www.kiplinger.com/tool/retir...by-state-guide-to-taxes-on-retirees/index.php
I was surprised at TN! LOL at liquor laws too. I do require a cocktail...Even though Ca is considered warm to most, it's even hard on my circulation during the winter, so I;ll need to stay south. I'm SO over desert chaparal, I miss trees, hills lakes and grass. I'm over taxes, regulations, thugs and crime too! TN, NC and KY were so beautiful, I spent a lot of time there as a kid. I might not be remembering the humidity and bugs. I lived several years in Orlando Fl. YUCK! Stale oppressive heat and never a breeze. Coast might be ok...warm water.
I have a BYC friend that lives in San Antonio. She said that there is basically no zoning restrictions outside city limits, but they strictly regulate septic. TX keeps looking better. Need a little space for doggies, a couple horses and some chickens! Thanks again for the info!

I will want RIR eggs whenever you have them available. I could wait until May or later

Incubation fever has hit me hard.
