Alaskan, sometimes we don't get spring till May or June, and then it goes straight for the jugular - with 90's. Ack, 72 F is about as high as I like it, and a breeze makes it better.

@Latestarter @Mutt Farm pineywoods area of Texas appeals to me. I love it here, it's home, between the Catskill mountains were I live and the Adirondacks, very beautiful place to live. I've got another 15 years min to worry about it but even though this is home seems kind of dumb to spend half of your retirement $ on various taxes. And I don't even want to get into all the new gun laws, our Gov wants us all to go back to flintlocks it seems, and then ban flint. To many other nice places to live in the US with lower taxes and more freedom.
We liked Fla, only been there between March and beginning of May. I'd like to move somewhere warmer, but I'm not against cold, Wyoming looks good.

LS - did you consider Alabama? I would be curious as to how we compare. It is hot and humid in the summer, but the rest of the year is glorious! Well, except for the tornadoes. I think our land is still cheap out in the boonies, and no one will try to tell you what to do on your own property as long as you are way out and have no close neighbors. I know our property taxes are low. Y'all check us out, now, ya' hear?

Oh, and our football team is decent.

Keep in mind these are averages and we will have some really hot (100+) and really humid (98%) days thrown in there in the summer. Generally, everyone gets up early and takes care of outside stuff, and then either stays inside or jumps from air conditioning to air conditioning the rest of the day. I have been known to take off work on rainy summer days so I could get my gardening done while it was bearable outside. I can't take the heat too well, but I manage. There are lots of people here who stay outside in the summer. They swear your body will get used to it if you don't spend all your time in the A/C. I do not plan to try out that theory.

Wisher, I wouldn't try that theory either. Probably people with low thyroid are the ones that survive. We have a lady on the senior bus - 76 that wears a hooded coat all year round - no joke. Even if it's in the 90's and horrible humidity. I'm sure she never uses a fan or air conditioning.

I would like that better than here... We never get warm. Interior Alaska gets warm, and even hot... But not where I am. Where I am summer temps like to be in the 50Fs.


As to heat... I loved no-wind, no clouds and over 90F... I would work outside until noon, have lunch in AC, siesta for a couple of hours, then work outside from 2 until dark.

But Alaskan, it probably comes with a price, like nearby neighbors - you wouldn't like that. And you'd have to change your user name to Alabaman.. or such
