The Old Folks Home

Thanks guys But I cant leave the livestock. Horse has a home for life with me shes 22 this year and Got a good fifteen more years in her. by then I will be seventy five.

Even weekend trips.... I am really not a wanderer by nature... Dont dream of getting away....

I do dream about making my house livable and improving my land to make my next thirty years simple and not stressful.

I dont have family to visit.... No aunts and uncles or even cousins. No grand kids maybe wont have any. Only mom whos 81 Who I iwll have to care for next. Dragging her home wont work long term. Unless I have someplace other than the house to live in. My son hopefully will stay in San Diego but hes talking Washington or Oregon. if I go visit him I will do the train.

so a the motor home will find its last resting place here. Unless I can get a Tiny house built for my bedroom.

Quote: Beer a lot of people do that! And some full timers will work in the office a couple weekends a month for some free rent.

Here at the Santee lakes if you get on the volunteer list rent is free or greatly reduced. I toyed with the idea.... But no cant leave Katee.

I do not want to work for my space. I just want to fish and have fun.
I now have a referral for PT starting this week. And the Dr. is referring me to a Ortho Dr. in Birmingham, AL. to do my hip replacement surgery this fall. I told him I can't do it till my husbands busy season is over. Then hopefully I will be able to wait awhile to get the other one done. It's not quite as bad.

Or you could build one of these

using plastic wire. No glue. just zip ties to stretch the cage wire.
put it in the green house when its time to clean lift it up and rake and set it back down and refill with bedding.

We have a couple wooden brooders made WITH TOPS that were pretty easy to put together:

In the coop:

Basement large (4x4)

Upstairs, mid size (2x4)

Outdoors broody box, about 2x2.5ish?

I get it Perchie, you have a frozen chicken and figured the slow warming of a crock pot, will revive it with less trauma - right ?:gig

Hummm, good ideas, yours and @superchemicalgirl I will have to look through my junk pile, no way I am gonna pay money for anything. AWESOME idea about putting it in the greenhouse.

Karin took a peek in the nest, saw a mutt chick and a hyline cockerel. She didn't check more closely, because it was a bit crowded in there. Apparently Wilma is trying to hijack the chicks, even though she hasn't spent a minute sitting the eggs.

I ventured to the nest as well and took a look at what our mommy is hiding in there, 4 chicks so far, one of our own mutts and three of the hybrids. Based on my presumption of these being Hy-Line Browns, and my inexperienced eye, I'd say the three hybrids are all male. There's a bit of brown in there, but they're all pretty light. They could also be Lohmans or ISA:s though, but still, shouldn't the pullets clearly be darker in color? I can't believe our rotten luck with these little cluckers. If my guesses are right, we are still at about two thirds males in our all time hatching. Of course, we only tend to hatch out around a six pack at a time, so our sample size is a bit low. I hope the mutt is at least a girl. And I hope the two remaining eggs hatch. I didn't see any pipping on them though, so might be that they're both late stage quitters.

On the theme of weight loss and general fitness improvement, Karin started doing workouts aided by youtube videos about three weeks ago, and two weeks ago she managed to guilt me into doing them with her. Now after about ten workouts I'm starting to notice an improvement in my fitness level, I'm actually able to go through the whole workouts with the videos. I feel a bit emasculated by the "Good job, ladies!" shouts in between, but if I keep this up I'm going to look quite good in a bikini come summer. At least that's what the instructors in the videos say. The fat burning stuff is a bit tough to get through, but I have to say, the Pilates stuff is actually pretty great. The intensity level is nice and low, and you're improving your core muscles and becoming more limber without even noticing it. Worth looking into for all of you with back issues.
