The Old Folks Home

Alaskan,  I couldn't help but notice you culled the mom but, didn't think it could have come from the father & culled him.   Females always get the blame.  It's is your fault Alaskan.

I culled the chick.... Not the mom, I was asking if I should kill the mom... If she is likely a recessive carrier for cross beak.

And yeah, if I knew it was a clear recessive, then yeah, I should kill both the rooster and the hen, but I don't have a spare male. :idunno

Scg I too love the guinea at the police dept!

klucky that might be worth trying. Thanks.

Alaskan I bought some hatching eggs from a APA poultry Judge and during hatching I don't know if the temp spiked or dropped but one of the chicks had a crossed beak.
DH and I clipped it and filed it for her regularly. She was my pet. I knew it was not the breeders birds, it was my hatching. I think it was my second attempt at hatching.

'Sweet Baby Ray' I just love saying it. Best thing with that stuff is it's sold at Aldi's cheap. I add extra brown sugar, does work awesome for a marinade, soaked for a couple days in a london broil, or a venison roast, cook on the grill low and slow and frequently baste.
Vehve, I actually do make my own marinade; One packet of Good Season dry salad dressing mix garlic and herb, and a packet of zesty italian, double the vinegar and a little xtra water. Lol!
Stuff is over a dollar a packet in the store, I get it through food orders at work $3 for a box of 24, tells you how much the mark up is.
That Salimida marinade stuff I don't buy often, it's a little expensive, but it's the bomb! I don't know what they put in it but their State Fair chicken and Spedie marinades are awesome! Where it's made, Binghamton NY, the birthplace of the spedie, Italian I believe, has a spedie fest and ballon rally every yr, live bands etc, Link; http://tinyurl.com/jbmc7w6
There's another there also 'Lupo's', I prefer Salimidas though.
Buffalo NY was the birthplace of the hot wings 'buffalo wings'.
I have taken a large roast and let it simmer over night in some type of cola. DD3 likes cherry dr. pepper then the next morning take it out of the soda and shread it, put it in the Sweet Baby Ray's and add some cumin and let it cook on low all day. And you would not believe how tender it is.

Anyone got fun weekend plans? It will be warming up here by around noon - so afternoon I will be tackling the rest of the goat barn excrement and wasted hay fiasco from winter. I'm guessing 12 more giant wheelbarrows full.

We will be working on raised beds and building rabbit feeders. It is suppose to rain for the most part so we may not get a whole lot done.
We went to Lowe's and bought more veggies to plant. lol Collards, broccoli, cauliflower, tomato plant, bell peppers. I am getting very excited about spring planting. I think we will be planting some cold weather plants today anyways.

We spent the day yesterday in Tuscaloosa after Dh's Dr. appt. we spent the day piddling around and shopping. Had a nice supper at Outback before we came home.

Happy planting, Chicka!

I'm hoping to get the horses' stalls mucked out properly - it's finally dry enough out there that I can use a wheelbarrow instead of having to carry stuff in buckets.

Thanks Bunnylady.

I'm so sorry you and SCG have to muck out yucky junk.

We only have one chicken coop to do and ever since we we to Chris Mc's to get our Buckeye's I learned from him to put all your leaves into the coop and let the chickens dig and keep them turned over. And now we only have to change the leaves out once a year with this deep litter method. Our chickens love it and so do we.
