The Old Folks Home

SCG, your pretty (not so) little girl Pippy looks a bit like a spinster goat... Her bio clock is ticking! Think how much more fun you could have with birthing kids and then having all that fresh milk to make cheese and stuff from? You've never mentioned if you've considered breeding her. Though you HAVE mentioned the possibility of getting rid of her/them. (weren't there 2?) Glad you got the enclosure all cleaned out. Has to feel better knowing it's done. Even though you may not "feel" better having done it... Just the though has me wishing I had a jacuzzi...

I have a LOT of yard work to get done and threw my back out a few days ago... So not much is getting done till that heals up. One of the many joys of being an old folk. I find as time goes by that my various aches and pains seem to be increasing...

I tried to breed the goats we had before this batch. It didn't turn out so good. This batch I was going to breed a few years back but they kept going into heat at inopportune times. They're fall/winter breeders, and if you breed them too early then you'll definitely have goat kid(s) in the house, and the later you breed them the more likely they are to go into heat during blizzards or ice storms. I gave up trying to breed them. I would likely breed Caramel, because Pippy is the breed of goat that screams (although has sweeter tasting milk).

Yes, Pippy is not thin.

I do have two... and they're very different. I let them out of the goat enclosure for a few hours today while I cleaned them out and did some yard work. Caramel bolts out and won't go back in until offered food. On the other hand Pippy is the "up my butt" goat - she's constantly underfoot and needs to be near her mother. She does leave the enclosure, but only to follow me.

Caramel can be loving. She does like to kiss and caress ears. She also likes to face-butt.

Hi Irish Gardener - Welcome to the world of The Old Folks Home. You don't have to be old to be here. I'm 68 and feel I would be in your "wobblers," class. Hope you posted at "New Members Introduction," thread to get a proper welcome from all the greeters.

I brought a doz fresh eggs over to a neighbor, since my girls are laying again. She had a guest visiting and to make a long story short, I may have sold my place... cash... at the time frame I was hoping for - June/July Time frame and at a price I'm quite happy with.

She basically told me to let her know when I was ready... I told her I'd like to close June/July as I have cleaning up and repair to do to the place to get it in top shape for sale. She said she's waiting on an aunt to release the cash to her but her aunt is out of town right now. I showed her the entire place and she loves it. I get the impression she'd close tomorrow if she could get the cash from the aunt that quick... So in the next 2-3 weeks I should know for sure. If I can get the repairs done I'd be more than willing to close as early as the end of May. That would make an awesome birthday present

I took a few photos as I was cleaning out the goats... took almost 3.5 hours. And closer to 20 wheelbarrow loads full.

Pippy... the very helpful goat.

I think Pippy is saying "Thanks for cleaning up Mom". Either that or "It is ABOUT TIME Mom"

No reason to lose that 6% if you can find your own buyer. Make sure they know the dog doesn't come with the house.
