The Old Folks Home

We just had earlier, belated birthday cake, worked all week and I guess little munchkins HAD to have a birthday song and cake/ice cream today, I worked on and all week 2nd shift so I didn't see them. The ice cream was price chopper brownie blast 'frozen dairy dessert' What the heck is a 'frozen dairy dessert'!? Checked the garbage, kids said "eww gross" had to know, I finished off a little dab of two different boxes of 'Friendly's' ice cream last night, a big good chain of restaurants and ice cream here. One box 'Vienna mocha chunk' said premium ice cream, other 'Turtle sundae' said frozen dairy dessert!?? Whats up with that? Ingredient list looked the same, is it the extra added cake/nuts/swirls/candy added that they have to call it different because of the added amount of extra? Or is it fake ice cream? @drumstick diva , ice cream master, would you know?
Any way, my fave is chocolate peanut butter, real chunks of peanut butter not Reese's (which I love and am addicted to also...) If we go to 'Friendly's' my happy ending sundae is PB&J, raspberry ice cream with real peanut butter chunks mmm...

Not a huge fan of flavored ice cream with lots of different "stuff" in it. Call me bland... my favorite oldest daughter does. Anyway, Beer, that final entry the PB&J w/raspberry and peanut butter actually sounds pretty appetizing. Haven't been to a Friendly's in many many years. I remember their ice cream was the focal point of their available product line. I remember it being very good too.

Yeah, Friendly's are a restaurant chain, but premium ice cream. Hard serve is the only I will order with something in it, don't like cold candy like M&Ms, too hard. Didn't like that brownie ice cream, too chewy. Soft serve, just give me plain vanilla.

Icecream that I like

French Vanilla

Dulce de leche

Cherry Garcia

Butter Pecan

Coffee

Dark Chocolate

Pralines and Cream

Mango Sherbert

Raspberry Sherbert

I dont get icecream often but 50 percent of the time it will be French vanilla.

The difference between Ice Cream and Frozen Dairy Dessert Which is probably Ice Milk.... is the Butter fat content among other things.

here is a brief run down,.

Ok here is an ice cream story....

My Grandpa Dixon was a consummate farmer and sharecropper. While they didnt have alot of money the family ate well. And the kids got new shoes every year and never went to school hungry or dirty. Apparently Grandmas fried chicken was to die for....

There was a family in the community that was not doing so well. The kids always went to school dirty and hungry. They werent farmers I dont know the details. Any way they were invited to dinner to help them out some. Grandma processed the chickens the day before.... refrigeration was in the form of an Ice Box. Ice being delivered in huge blocks. Grandma was no stranger to feeding a large crew. There were Seven in her family and often times she would be feeding the work hands which could number ten or more..... Especially during harvest.

Well the family came over and ate and ate... dad was horrified.... they would take a bite or two out of a piece of chicken and reach for another. And he could see his dad getting angrier and angrier at the waste... Three cardinal rules in dads family. Waste not Want not, No cruelty to the animals, and all animals had to work.

Grandma and Grandpa were gracious to their guests. Guests who where still eating when Grandpa Dixon announced he was going to make some ice cream.

Grandpas Hand churned Peach Ice cream was Legendary. They had fresh home grown peaches and a couple of their cows produced milk that was so high in butterfat that they only made butter out of it. Normally you limit the cream in ice cream or it will be too rich. Dad said when the ice cream was done he wouldnt let any of his family have some.

True to form the Guests dove in to the ice-cream and ate it all. By the end of the evening they thanked profusely and piled in their car for the drive home. Grandpa had a genuine smile on his face as they drove off.

A few days later the Father of the family spoke to Grandpa.... "you know it took us almost an hour to get home the other day" The drive was only 15 or 20 minutes normally. "We had to stop several times because of "upset stomachs" "
"No... Really?" grandpa said...Apparently dinner had gone straight through.... and they had fertilized the desert on their way home.

They were never invited over again.
