The Old Folks Home

Klucky Wisher showed us nothing bit true southern hospitality. We were grateful though that possum wasn't on the menu. The collard greens were excellent as were the black eyed peas. I gained five pounds while we were there despite the hiking. ;-)

I gained weight reading about collard greens and black eyed peas!

Of course there has to be corn bread and sweet tea too!

Quote: Ron indeed there was home made corn bread.

There was probably sweet tea but I had water. I needed to rehydrate.

Heel low:

Eggs, they are a most beautiful thing...

There's always been something about an egg nestled in your hand...something good about the goodness. The simple fact that our feathered pets share their bounty with us.

Goes without saying that having had birds around me my entire life, around when I was a toddler, around in my golden years--I would love eggs.

Eggs...the bonus of having "pets" with benefits. Now of course having had feathered friends for so long, it would have to be the extremes that now grab my attentions, well OK, past I do feel like a kid every time I hold a fresh warm laid cackleberry in my paws...but the extremes would certainly catch my fancy.

I like the lil' egg farts we sometimes find from our hens as they come back to lay...sometimes the huge eggs a cold spell has made happen, like the hen holds on to their egg for dear life literally! I personally am not much of an egg eater per say, but I do enjoy our eggs in baking, omelettes and devilled eggs are divine (made some last night...delish).

Eggs...what could be more wonderful than eggs? Most here know how much we all appreciate the EGG!

March 31, 2016 - Piper & Pearl

One thing I do know, the Australian Black Swan's eggs that I will never quite get use to.

The size is one thing...like 3.75 times bigger than a Jumbo chook egg...it amazes me that a ten pound bird can lay an egg that large but they do.

What I find fascinating is that not only "I" am enraptured with the occurrence of the Swanny eggers...

Here are some pics I took at month end. Out of our two pairs, Pearl is laying yet another clutch...I guess spring is in the air for that pair...

So like does Lacy know what this shelled object contains...

I recall asking a vet once, when is eggs in a dog's dinner too much egg? Vet had never been asked that question, more the vet had been telling people they needed to feed their dogs eggs...not how much is too much! Hee hee...

Does Emmy's dog nose SMELL the golden potential delights inside?

I truly think the girls do know what this blue green object contains...

Both are lip licking and well...that means GOOD EATS in my books!!!
Not just me enraptured with a prize found in the swan nest...the dogs think it is fantastic too.

"Please...please may we have this one scrambled, with a bit of shredded cheese; an omelet of mega magnitude!"

"Yes, yes! Let's herd this ol' hag master of ours towards the kitchen!"

I never wonder why Pearl hisses at the dogs...she has every good reason to hiss...

I love the goat story AL! :) Just warms my heart.

Scg black eye peas are the heart and soul of the South! My DH is confused a bit he thinks they are purple hull peas!

We had only one homemade meal while on our visit... Well, two if pancakes count...Black-eyed peas (dried,) fresh collard greens (with homemade pepper sauce) hot buttered cornbread, and ribs from the grill (thank you, DH!) I was going to make "Irsh potatoes" (Irish in granny-speak) but we got in late and it takes time to do them right. A right proper southern meal, I'd say......

We had a great time! Dsqrd and SCG are every bit the wonderful people IRL that they are here in The Home. They walked me all over creation and half of Hades, but it was fun. We laughed and laughed and picked on each other, and didn't give a happy rat what other people thought of it.

I taught SCG some southern expressions, but I'll let her share those once she's had some time to perfect them.
What a wonderful Southern home cooked meal! Bless you Wisher! Glad you all had a great time. I do wish I could have met y'all. But maybe another time.
