The Old Folks Home

For what its worth I am going to build a squeeze chute for my next goats. Just a gate panel that I can head the goat toward or and swing it so it can be snugged up against the goat for restraint. then latched behind so my hands will be free. for different reasons hoof triming would be one.

I always plan for not having help for stuff.

do that suspended perch for my Guineas. I hang em from a V of Bailing twine from the ceiling. The perch wont swing very much at all even with Guineas doing foot races on them. Then to stop the side to side I do one piece of twine on each end.

These posts are 5" around and 12' long wood. I don't think I need a end piece to hold them. If I see there is a problem I will though. :)
just saying what i did. My perches were 2x3s So very light compared

Oh, I know. I just don't think these will need it. But I could be wrong. lol

The universe is trying to get me together with CrazyNeighborLady.

I got off work early today, came home and was going to nap, but guilt got the better of me so I decided to clean the goat house. Then I decided to see if I could clip the goats toenails by myself by shoving them up against the wall or a fence.

Well, I started with Caramel, the jerk. As I was doing it Pip, the lover, was trying to love on me. So Caramel got away and ran into the goat house. Thinking, "aha! I got her now" I closed the door behind us and cornered her. The next thing I hear is Pip freaking out because I'm not visible and her pushing up against the goat house door.

Thankfully CNL was home and I didn't have to call the po-leez.
It's a good thing she was home. That is awful.
You need a way to get out!

We had a horse once that locked my daughter in the feed room. She could not get out and had to wait for me to get home to come find her!

Less than 30 seconds before it happened I contemplated removing my jacket (and thus cell phone in the pocket) because it's hot here (hot is relative, less than 60) but the jacket helps protect against scrapes and scratches so I left it on. Thankfully.

Oh my - silly Pip, thank goodness help was just a phone call away (and you had your phone).

time to make an emergency release for your self....LOL.... My aviaries were twelve gauge wire and were six sided so when you went in youd better have a wire to pull to release the latch. Heard a story about a guy who went in to do some cleaning and pulled the door shut so the finches couldnt get out.... Went in at noon.... His wife didnt get off work till six.... and that was before cell phone days.

X 2 - I got stuck in the coop one day -- DS had gone out with me to do chores and what not. Well, he got bored before I was done so he went back up to the house, latching the door behind him like a good boy....from the OUTSIDE (I always latch the inside latch while we are in the coop if it's a time we don't want the birds out ranging around).....didn't even occur to me at the time, was all wrapped up in what I was doing. Got done with the chores, turned to leave and SURPRISE! The pop door is the only other way out of there and there is no way *I* will fit through there. I didn't have my phone with me and the coop sits way out on the back side of the pasture so I just had to sit there and hang out with the birds and wait for someone to miss me. Given that I tend to spend a lot of time out there anyway no one thought to come looking for me, finally the neighbor guy happened to come out to his garden plot which was within in yelling distance to the coop so I got his attention and he rescued me.....I was about to give up and scale the wall between coop and stall, but that would have meant taking down the wire we have across the top gap and then making a 12 foot drop into the stall......which didn't sound like much fun to me. You better believe I had a release wired up the next day.
