The Old Folks Home

Sorry for all the BS you've been dealing with Clue... I've been a landlord, and I've been a tenant... I hope you didn't spend too much on the fence repairs... short of small claims court, I don't know what else you could do. If he tries to stiff you on the security deposit, I wouldn't hesitate to take him to court! Sorry hubby has change issues, especially in this case. ownership is so much better than renting, and in most cases the mortgage is/will be less than the rent for the same place would be. landlords couldn't really afford to be landlords if they weren't making money doing so... Negative cash flows will drain even the wealthiest landlords. Utilities are gonna cost you either way. Good luck with the home search and hope hubby can deal with it.

Getaclue I agree with Diva and Alaskan!
My Dh is also overwhelmed by change and he got so flustered when we went to buy the RV he shut down. I had to tell the dealer we were taking a break and we went outside and sat in some rockers and talked it over. I asked him what was wrong that this is what he had always wanted and now it was happening. He said he could not dicker with the guy over prices like I do. So we discussed what he to spend and how much of a down payment and how much for monthly payments he wanted to spend. Then we went back in and I took charge. I told him what we wanted and we dickered. My dad was the champ! So I learned from him.
I guess what I am saying is take charge if your Dh can't. We all have our strong points and we have to balance each other out.

I know there is some home out there that will be perfect for you!

Getaclue, I think I would look for someone in the area that needs to buy a nicely built gate, and take their old gate as a trade in.... If there is any question from the owner of your place, you were building it for the other house all along, you just put it up at your rental because you were sizing it. Just a coincidence that the openings are the same size. The gate you built was paid for by you (I'm sure you have receipts for all the materials) and reimbursed by the person who has it now. He would have to admit that you had a deal to dispute you. If you still have the old gate, put it back up.

Dang, Getaclue. Rotten landlord...What a karma target! The nice thing about having (owning) your own home is you don't have BS like that to deal with. I hope you find exactly what you need and that the throes of escrow are smooth.

Do you have something long and lightweight (like a length of PVC pipe) that you can use to gently herd them out?

I know my birds have been pretty shell-shocked after a predator attack, but they eventually settle back to more normal behavior. With these chicks, I'd be afraid something else might get them before hunger drives them out. Good luck with recovering them.:fl

They clearly have PTSD. I think we are going to try to spray them with a water hose and corral them

poor babies, I don't blame them. Do you have some other chicks you could put near them , in a cage? They might come out and try to be with them.

I have more eggs than I can possibly use. I used to sell them, but didn't like the "feast or famine" cycles or trying to time worming with molt but not too close. It just became too much trouble. THEN I would take extra eggs to work to give away. People were thrilled to get them as long as I was giving them away, but one day I sent out an email saying I had some for sale and not one person bought any. I don't bother anymore. We eat what we want and the dogs get the rest. This is my countertop this morning.
