Everything in that egg was bigger!

It scrambled up normally but the yolk broke easily. The hen that laid that egg is going onto 4 now.

Interesting that you said that Ron... My hens are a little over 2yrs old now & have been laying progressively larger eggs since they started (some, not all) and are now laying extra large/sometimes jumbo sized eggs and the yolks don't have the firmness they once did. If I crack the egg too high above the pan, many times the yolk breaks. Is this typical? Is there something in their diet that's "off" or missing to cause this?

As the hen ages, the eggs get bigger and the albumin and yolk loosen up--protein loses elasticity. It is normal and expected.

Still, 94G eggs are crazy!

Thanks! Nice to know, and yes, a 94G egg is spectacular! Crazy how sometimes they do that. Wonder why it happens? I get the occasional super sized egg also. I don't weigh mine though...

Yet more crazy:
Ancona 92g
BA (smaller) 102g
BA (larger) 114g

Yes a single egg that is the equivalent of 2 USDA Large (low end) is crazy. Fortunately she doesn't lay huge eggs often but she's done about a half dozen 90g or larger. Mostly when she was in her second year. Now 4 Y/O she is being much more reasonable and sticking to the 60s-70s.

I made the mistake of helping out on the hatching with friends thread....I have to get off of that thread....It gives me a headache! It is too busy.
