yes ma'am......

fortunate enough to have a bay, less than 8 miles from the house, for shrimp and oysters.......

bay shrimping has generally moved to the actual gulf tho, for many reasons, but mostly to help protect the recreational fisheries...which is a good thing. in this area and heck, all the way north up to San Antone, and Austin areas, more people own recreational fishing boats, than you can shake a stick at.......pretty amazing.

but nothing like, showing up to the bait house, around 10 am, right after the boat has docked, and pick up a sack of fresh oysters, and a couple of pounds of still kicking shrimp.......

my family always wonders why I'm never hungry at our fish fries......lol

if they ever watched while I shucked the oysters and peeled the shrimp, they'd know......lol

I can do everything but the Quail egg..... go figure.. Love uni but it has to be good uni... I have had some that was too old and bitter...

Kathy give Topeko a try some time if its on the menu. Flying fish eggs/roe.... Super sweet lots of flavor comes in red Black and green.... I only like the red because the black is died with soy and the green is dyed with Freaking WASABi....

My favorite Oysters these days are Oyster shooters.... SErved in a shot glass with Ponzu sauce a drop of tobasco ginger and scallions on top and smelt roe as a garnish. Place I go to is buy two get one free.

living in 95 degree weather with 95% humidity, does have a few advantages......

I think your oysters over Cali way are a tad bit bigger, than our eastern oysters.

Like the seafood can keep breathing even when you take them out of the water since the humidity is so high.

Keeps it fresher that way!

No oysters in So Cal, except for some farmed ones, most are San Francisco and North. Pismo area has clams though, which are fun to go find. Best oysters I ever had were up by where my parents live in Washington. Just pick them up out of the oyster beds and bring them home. Delicious.
