The Old Folks Home

Did they take turns cranking the handle? Our family would and the grown men would stand on the bucket dancing. Usually my pops and uncles. Everyone had to have a turn or they didn't get any!! Lol
Yes! The cousins did the cranking while the Uncles drank beer--The Aunts were very particular about the constancy of the ice cream. It had to go until you could not crank it anymore.

We also played a game--put rock salt in your hand and then some ice. on the count of three, squeeze and see who could stand the cold the longest! Ouch!

Grandmas birthday went without a hitch.... 100 years old today.

One Gal came with her Daughters... She looked to be around eighty and her daughters looked to be sixty and seventy.... Come to find out She was 94....All the rest were in their seventies and eighties....

Even Elisabeth the gal that cleans the house came with her Son and Daughter. And the Pizza Guy Joe, who is the owner of our favorite pizza place, came. He delivered the pizzas and stayed about two hours. Hes adopted Grandma as his and is a big softie. He took a bizillian pictures and promised to email them to me.

I couldnt have pulled it off if my son and cousin hadn't helped.

I crashed at about two pm and went to bed leaving Dean to explain and handle cleanup duty. I got up at five and the last two were still here...

soon as I finish destressing I am going back to bed.

I hear ya. I have the same problem worry, worry, worry. I don't know why. lol
Scientifically speaking, there IS a reason why. (But I don't want to worry you....

) As we get older our brain shrinks EXCEPT for the section of the brain (located near the base, I believe) that is the worry center. So what happens is that our worry center (although it stays the same size) seems to increase in proportion to the rest of the working brain. Ergo, older folks tend to worry more not out of habit or desire but due to physiology.

I am trying to limit my ice cream making--I can wash the paddle and the canister--make another batch immediately so I could make ice cream all day if I wanted too. No ice or salt or any thing....I would get so fat!

Growing up, we made peach ice cream on Mothers Day with all of the relatives--usually about 40 of them.

Family get-togethers in the summer had the cranking ice cream maker. Kept us cousins occupied while the folks imbibed.
Ron, that no salt/ice ice cream maker sounds like extra gym workouts in the making....but also like a lot of experimentation and fun, too. Yum!

Diva,
have you tried Tilamook's Oregon Hazelnut & Salted Caramel ice cream? All the right sensation combos of sweet, smooth, creamy, crunchy and salty.
dang... Now I'm rather craving.

Happy National Ice Cream Day
(Enjoy your Sunday...or sundae)

We don't get Tillamook out here (Illinois) :(

I remember back about a 100 years ago, that we found a recipe for homemade ice cream in a Betty Crocker dessert book. I know we used Hershey syrup and heavy whipping cream but can't remember the rest. Think we used the beater and then you poured into ice cube trays (minus the cube dividers) and kept in the freezer. It was heavenly, and so easy to make.
