I prefer my blueberries fresh.

Raspberries are finally ripening! No more veggies for us... Just an hour a day in the raspberry patch!

Morning Alaskan!
yep, raspberry time here too but we don't need have our own patch. Near the road sides in several places right near us are patches loaded with red raspberries and in a week or two my favorite secret wild blackberries looks like it will be loaded this year. Fortunately we don't have grizzlies and I've only been chased out of a berry patch by the black bears once. A big male that decided the last of the blackberries were his. He of course won the argument with the first "huff".

Oh, and we HAD a nice little wild blueberry patch in the far corner of our field until hubby decided mowing it down would probably make them grow better, wrong.

Reminds me. Haven't checked that area in a couple years. Might be a nice Sunday excursion. Temps were in the 40's overnight but the sun is out and getting warm already so it should be a nice morning walk down our back road. There is also a small raspberry patch back there too, better put my bear bells on and take a picking bucket (and my gun

).

Our back road that runs along and behind the edge of our field.
the blueberry patch is (was) at the end and to the right. The
blackberry patch is to the left and then the right down a trail.

Alright y'all made me do it

I'm so jealous! It'll be too hot here for a couple more months to even think about baking pies. If I could be having pie & coffee while looking at this view, I'd be livin' the good life!!!

yep.... sigh.... Baking of any kind.... Even store bought frozen pies.... And bread or biscuits.... When I move home i could bake in my kitchen Lots of ways to ventilate. My favorite pies are Apple Cherry and pumpkin.

Berries here are pretty much Strawberry.... I like em fresh though. But anything that requires a hard freeze is difficult to grow her we have to buy fruit trees and bushes that are adapted to the climate.

There are some varieties of Blue berries that will grow in containers. There are some varieties of Apples and pears and stone fruit that dont require alot of cold so they will grow at my house. But they need water..... sigh. Figs too. though they dont like frost the winters here are mild enough.

When i moved on to my property there was a fig and a peach tree.... Just hanging on I had to let them go. I believe Mulberry trees will grow here too.

ONce I get the grey water system setup I can have fruit trees.... and berries... that dont need a long freeze.

Any and al fruit trees will have to be Espaliered and grown in a critter proof enclosure though.

I bake in the summer--I use a convection toaster oven that holds 9x13 pans. It does not heat the kitchen up too much.

I have been inspired and will bake a fresh peach pie today.

Mulberries, how are they Supposed to taste? They grow here, I've seen some but none in the immediate area we live that I know of. Never tried them before until our trip down south this spring.
There was some ripe one's on a tree at a rest area we stopped at. DW didn't want me to pick them, thought they might be poisonous Lol, they're mulberries, how do you know, cause they are Lol.
I ate a handful while picking more for the kids. Not very good, kinda bland and odd flavoured, nothing like the blackberry flavor I was expecting. Then I noticed they were infested with tiny white worms...I wanted to throw up so bad. DW and the kids got a laugh out of that one, I felt sick for awhile that day just thinking about it.

Just sitting down to lunch now and my first summer corn that I picked up at the farm stand on the way home from berry picking yesterday. The early corn isn't as sweet as late corn, but nothing beats sitting down to your first summer corn.

Please, post your pies. Never had peach pie (always cobbler)

You can make jelly and pies with them but you need to add a good amount of Lemon Juice--Lemon Juice will make the flavor come out.

That is a trick from my Mom. She was a wizard at stuff like that..or is it Witch?
