The Old Folks Home

The last hour or so has been on and off drizzle. It is still dry under the tree canopy in the chicken run, meaning we haven't gotten more than a tenth of an inch, but still, it's nice to get something.

Happy weekend, y'all. What is everyone up to? I'm feeling a bit sick, but not too bad and will be working on an Xmas gift (sewing of course) today. BF is recovering from a week of overnights so darn, the vacuuming and cleaning will have to wait.

...too bad about the cleaning...

I don't have anyone recovering so house work is on the agenda today

Tomorrow we will be driving into Chicagoland (what the areas around Chicago are called) to meet DD2 for a 27th birthday lunch. We will be meeting a young man she has been dating....

I'm mowing lawn this morning. It's been so darned hot here and the rain has been spaced just right to keep the grass growing and us inside just watching it shoot up. I also have some work to do on my new shed coop (recycled shed), help DH harvest more wood for winter heating (need 7-8 full cords, have maybe 6+ so the end is in sight) Once again heat indices in the 110 degree range here keeps us inside and in the AC.

So it's going to be a busy weekend here.

Hope you all have a good one!

Ron, I thought antenna went away?

I agree on the windproof pants - I can wear almost anything under them and be pretty warm. I really like the LLBean thin down jackets. They're really light and really warm and if it gets too hot come off and zip into a small carrying pouch. LLBean wool or wool-like socks. I have the LLBean waterproof but insulated boots and I hate hats but use ear muffs or the head bands that cover my ears. If it's going to be really cold and windy I also have a mouth/nose guard that velcros in the back of my neck. And a scarf. And waterproof gloves.

Nope. Have a safe trip.

microchick... that sounds like a not terribly fun weekend with the exception of the wood (but not fun in the heat). I've read in the paper here not to mow your lawn or prune anything in a drought and I am taking that advice VERY SERIOUSLY.
I said yesterday that we either need a flock of goats or like the Amish around us, stake out a couple of fat ponies to do the mowing for us.

At least working on firewood puts us in the timber where it is cooler.
