The Old Folks Home

@Latestarter
We are on the same page there love watching the storms or when st Helen did
blow the side out her it was spectacular from a scientific point a few but the loss of life was awful
to measure.. I more am a fatalist when God calls me home it is my time
in whatever manner he deems..

I've been through two or three shakers due to the New Madrid fault passing gas on occasions. Both of them was while I was living in IL. I was in my teens during the first one and remember looking out the window to see the telephone poles rippling as if they were riding on a sheet that was being shook out. The second was while I was on a ladder and it felt as if somebody was kicking one of the legs.

There were both kinda 'fun' to go through but I can't say I'd like to ride out a big 7.0 or high one.

Three weeks ago when DH and I saw the cold air funnel cloud west of our house we set in the pasture and watched it for about 20 minutes before it dissipated.

Weather fascinates me and I think my husband also. We do a lot of photography of clouds, lightening and such. I think it's the extremes in nature that alarm me, especially as I get older.

I have been thru a lot of storms and earthquakes, hurricanes. I never want to see a real volcano go off! Seeing it in the movies is enough for me!
I had hoped we would get some rain from Hermie but we only got clouds. It would have made digging 5 holes for trees easier tomorrow.

sorry took a break to shop go see Mom all those great things
I love watching the storms always have was standing on an overpass down from Juneau
visiting the folks they lived in Auburn back then when
st Helens blew her side out so it was about a week later that
my x and I flew our Cessna they had not closed it just yet
and good lord the destruction was horrible god help them

Those don't bother me at all.

Which is good, since we get lots, often 6. and higher.

Flooding... I am scared of flooding, and entire cliffs eroding.

We flood here a LOT. Just have to build in a zone above the 1000 year plane and hope for the best. Hurricanes just suck because the electricity goes out and with that the electricity and air conditioning and well... they always seem to be in August when it is HOT. Only experienced a couple of small quakes in other places- didn't really know what they were until they were over. Always wanted to see a volcano with lava at night like in Hawaii.

The really sad thing is that for the last almost 6 months I've gone out at 7:30 to take care of the chickens and close all the doors. I'm usually done by ten till 8 and enjoy a leisurely walk back to the house with some light to guide me. Inside and done before 8.

Tonight......it was DARK! Tell me isn't so guys. Surely we can't be heading into fall and then winter already. Can we?

I have a hen on 11 eggs that are due to hatch in about 10 days. Apples are still hanging on the trees ripening. I know for the members in Australia, they are counting the days till their spring begins but I tell ya, I'm not ready. Not by a long shot for winter.

How are you guys doing? You ready for cold weather or are you like me and in a panic to get summer projects finished up before cold weather sets in?

our fire season just started.... sigh. Nights are cooler though. Lately it was 80 degrees and it actually felt cool. They sycamores are getting brown though.... Who knows when winter is going to start. January February is our rainy season... usually.... If you can call 10 inches of rain a rainy season.

I think about all the members out there on the west coast every time I hear about the wild fires that you get this time of the year. We get grass fires this time of the year and in spring when people get the urge to burn off their pastures and fields. We helped our neighbor put one out this past spring that was threatening to jump to our timber so we know how unpredictable they can be even on a smaller scale. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in the middle of a wildfire and be told that I had to evacuate with our 5 dogs, 5 cats and 30 chickens.
