I do the exact same thing as you...except I'm using a "live" trap to trap the rats.
It never even dawned on me that hubby could use my smaller, same type kennels with his snap traps.
roll.png

Thanks for that idea!
woot.gif

I read somewhere that if you see one rat there are 10 you don't see
wink.png

So how do you now get rid of your skunks??
Yep, 10 maybe 10,000. Same for skunks. Almost.
You bait the skunk traps with the rats you trap...
ep.gif

No, seriously...I JUST caught a skunk yesterday that way. I'd only do that when it's really cold otherwise it's
sickbyc.gif

I prefer marshmallows or muffins as bait
Apparently skunks REALLY like dark brown toast 'cause I came upon one trying to get the toast out of one of the traps I set for the rats.
And I had no firing action, because I didn't know where the guys had put things when they cleaned out the porch.
barnie.gif

All I had was a measly plastic flashlight. They don't care if you stand there with a light shining on them.
(Probably because he was bigger than me)

Just be careful if there are any dogs around if you use poison, they don't die right away. Someone in my daughter's neighborhood poisoned a rat, and DDs dog killed it when it came in her yard. Charlie almost died, and by the time it is over DD will have almost $4,000 in vet bills. (Multiple vitamin K shots, ivs, lab tests, etc.). Thankfully he's doing much better now, but still needs oral meds and a few more lab tests to make sure he has stabilized.
I told hubby about this to enlighten him. That's scary stuff!

Ok, yes...that's exactly what my Grandmother uses, except everyone calls them walkers here. Rollator makes much more sense though.

That seat is a godsend. She couldn't walk very far but she could sit on the seat and I'd push her.

Those are fantastic plans! Thinking ahead as well. When we built our house, my husband's friend was in a wheelchair and we changed the door openings to accommodate. The wider doors have been much handier than the standard size.

Back to your plans, they look very well thought out. One question I have from the first plan...will guineas lay eggs in a specific nest box/area? I notice you have two spots designated where they would lay.
LOL I was ever hopefull when I drew up those plans. I actually have an idea for guinea nests but I didnt have the tools at the time to make em up for the model.

That corner will be covered to simulate a brushy scrape similar to that they would find in the wild. as well as shielded from view.

yep I have some major remodeling to do on my house Taken down to the studs in the kitchen and parts of the living room. When I do this all the doors will get widened ..... Same goes for the front entrance. i have only sliding glass doors. Hate em hate em hate em.... One will get turned into a bay window and the other will get turned into a bonified front door with mud porch... Mud porches in the desert are really air locks, keeps the sand and hot air from getting into the house wehen you come and go.

I also want to turn my Art studio into a studio apartment/master bedroom.... it will put me on ground level with easy access to the livestock. the house is only up on a crawlspace about two feet off the ground. but the steps are going to get harder and harder to climb.

Sometimes that's the worst hurt...lol.

Goin' down hurts...but it's the easy part.
Getting back up...well, not so fun.
gig.gif

(Sometimes it's just easier to stay down)

Falling down isn't a problem for me I fall well as long as I dont try to stop it.... I can get back up but its not pretty..... When I was getting an estimate done for repairing the power pole by the pump house I was on uneven ground and not yet using a walker... the Electrician was following me back to the car I lost my balance grabbed some Ribbon wood tree and went Arse over Teakettle..... He was horrified and hurried to help me up.

I layed there laughing with a half a handful of leaves clutched in one hand. Even then I weighed more than 350... "No I'm ok" I said ... he offered to help me up... I thanked him but knew it was up to me to get me off the ground.... Hands and knees then straighten out my legs and start walking back wards with my hands... Yep I can still touch my hands to the ground.

Knees are shot but have to do it that way Or i would never be able to live alone.

I have elevation problems too - ups and downs. I thought getting a wheeled video game seat(very close to ground) would work for me in the house - I could scoot along but it was murder to get into and even worse to try and rise. I had to scoot over to something solid, so I could pull myself up. Needless to say that got returned to Target in a hurry. A lot of housework needs to be done at low heights or floor height and it only gets a "lick and a promise." My knees cannot tolerate kneeling - it would be good if everything was counter top high
If it's anything lower or softer than a kitchen chair...I just stand and look awkward.

gig.gif

I use my truck 98% of the time because I can slide right across onto the seat without having to get up or down.
I only use my car on my "good back days." On the positive side my car will last longer...lol!
I couldn't agree with you more. Counter top height and that's it. We need maids darn it!

Omigosh I hate my sliding glass doors too!
rant.gif
Whoever decided those were a good thing?
We planned to take ours out...a decade ago. Still. Hasn't. Happened.
Your plans sound nice! That makes sense about the mud porches = air locks.
My guineas just drop it like it's hot where ever they're standing...
gig.gif

Hubby says there's a guinea egg in one of the cattle pens...lol!

I'm lucky that my knees are pretty good because I use them to brace against so I can bend without too much pressure on my lower lumbar vertebrae.
(I'm sure it's quite a sight to see me!)
big_smile.png

I haven't fallen right down for quite a while because I just don't want to...lol.
Even the half slips are

the pain.

If I knew then what I know now...I should've bought MEGA shares in companies who produce pain medication; specifically anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxants.
I'd be rich now.

Stay away or else!

Y'all are so petite! I was 112 in grade 4. I grew really fast and have been my adult height since grade 5. (5'9")
Well, 5'8" now apparently. I guess I've dropped an inch with my squished disks.
hmm.png

Gorgeous pictures! Everything here is dead and brown here except the grass.
I would LOVE some roast turkey.
droolin.gif

Fun fact: Did you know that both turkey and chicken can be blended so fine it can be drank through the teeth if you're jaw is wired shut because it's been broken.
In fact the mashed potatoes, peas and gravy can all be blended into a glorious avocado green smoothie that tastes as good as a regular meal.
Hamburger is a no-go. (Please bear with me, it is almost 2 am.)

Yep. I knew I had an infection in one of my wisdom tooth sockets (about a week after extraction) based on the acrid taste. Not that I have ever tasted such a thing before but I'd smelled enough infected puss while working at a vet's that the smell/taste connection was obvious.

My near sighted vision has taken a dive bomb the last month. I've got to take my glasses off to see. The same with my hubby's vision. But he's 4 years older than I am so I've been telling him that it's just not fair!

I see progressive lenses in my near future.
hit.gif

Um, I've been wearing progressives for decades. Tried bifocals at first. THE WORST! Out working in the garden things clear, glance a bit farther down without moving your head and NAUSEA with everything totally out of focus.

I understand I do have a bifocal but it is clear glass upper
no magnavision at all the correction is lower so I have some kind of vision

I have two pair of bifocals and I hate them. I could read a little with them but, felt woozy when walking with them. I end up using reading glasses from Dollar Tree. No kidding, I do lots better with them than trying to figure out do I look up or down.

I use those for sewing ... I have a line bifocal so I never have a problem day to day
funner part is they still make the right lense telling me I would still have
to pay for it... worse is I wear the dark glasses in even in no or low light
light kills I have turned into dracula or the evil witch with light

quiz me this we gave my girls cut up pumpkin last night
about 4 hours before dark went in to close them in they only ate
the seeds no meat?

When I give my girls pumpkin, it takes them several days to eat it all. They will leave the skin though.
