The Old Folks Home

Still no vet... I've obviously been usurped for a cowmergency of epic proportions.

I've made about 17 quiet book pages so far, I will share a few as to not bore the rest of the old folks. If you want to see more you can have me add you on facebook. Note: there may be unprofessional and immature content from time to time. Or constantly.

This was the most complicated one I've made and took me 2 weeks of constant sewing in my spare time but I love it. It's camping.

The stuff in the bowls on the table come out to make s'mores, and the sticks come out. You can "toast" the marshmallows on the stick over the fire. The fire has the batting for hot pads so it crackles when you touch it.

The cave opens and there's a bear in there. The bear comes out.

The hot chocolate on the table snaps on and off to play with. The lantern has a light up push LED keychain in it, if you push it the lantern comes on. There's a snap in the lantern to replace the keychain and/or batteries.

The girl is made with pipe cleaners so she can pose. The zipper on the sleeping bag is fully functional.

I made a fishing one - the hook has a strong magnet in it. The fish have a paper clip very securely sewn inside of them. The water is open so you can tuck the fish into any of the waves. The fishing pole does come out

Farm... the barn opens and these finger puppets are inside.

Build an ice cream cone

Doing laundry/matching socks. Each sock has a strong magnet sewn into it.

Hen and chicks (yeah, I had to):

Space exploring:

The rocket is on a zipper and opens to flames. Yes, I know my flames are sideways. I didn't purchase enough of that fabric to get them going the right direction. And how do you know that flames don't go sideways in space?

The astronaut has an open bottom of the head to slip a picture of the child in. To demonstrate that, I slipped a photo of one of my "children" in it, and there's also a hidden alien in one of the pocks.

This is the one I finished this week, sandcastles. They fit into the bucket for storage.

I started this project because I needed to learn to hand sew. My sewing teacher suggested I embroider pillowcases. I told her where she could stick that. I decided to do something that was "fun" and something that the recipient wouldn't care what it looked like, really, causing me to go insane trying to rip out bad stitches. My sewing when I first started was awful. But I didn't pick the stitches out and kept going. The sandcastles and almost all of the space except one half of the moon and the ankles/wrists is hand sewn. I've come a long way.

Hopefully I won't get banned from this group for the massive amount of photos. Sorry, y'all. I also have some cute "boy" ones - forklift and dumptruck and dinosaurs, but I think I've used up my allotted bandwidth for the day on here. I'm currently sewing Noah's ark (the boy in the family I'm sewing for is Noah, so it had to be done) and almost done with that one - just have a few more animals to sew and stuff with puffy stuffing.

@superchemicalgirl

Forget the kids.... I want a book like that.

Actually I did not have any insurance and the Lions club had me come to the Calahan Clinic in Birmingham. They are a teaching hospital so they did my surgeries for free.
I do believe in helping students learn. And I am currently going to UAB in Selma for a general practice doctors office. They don't do anything but keep up with my specialists so it's ok.
I still don't think I could let a student mess with my eyes... Cleaning teeth, sure... I even had one do a skin biopsy once... She freaked out worse than I did when she managed to rip the stitch out somehow... but I like my eyes...

BF wants to take him to the shelter to get adopted, but I don't think he will easily get adopted with that diagnosis, and testicles, and may get put down. I love having him as an outdoor kitty (he was so sweet when I was doing the chores yesterday, following me about) but even with the house we made him I worry about him being out in winter.

Have you seen the heated beds for cats? I think that if you have a wind break for him and get him one of those, he would be more than fine. I have one at the barn that lives outside year round, he just curls up in the hay to get warm when it's really cold. The heated beds stay warm, but not hot all the time, then when there is the pressure of a sleeping cat, it cranks the heat up to a little warmer than cat body heat and cools back down again when they leave

You could

Yeah we've been talking about a heated cat bed for him. I just got his rabies shot, the vet has come and gone.

Three things of note from the vet:
1. "You have a lot of poultry"
2. "Your goats are really fat, stop feeding them grain."
3. "Your goats have some of the nicest hooves I've seen."

(Note: I called her about cracking in the goat hooves - apparently that's not as big of an issue as I thought it was)

The vet left us 2 vaccines to booster the goats in 3 weeks. That ought to be fun. I'll see if I can't get that on video for you, too.

@superchemicalgirl I learned hand quilting from my grandmother sewing them
all by hand had to go to a machine loosing my vision to much blood loss

SCG you have found your true calling in life. Those quiet books should be copyrighted so they can't steal your designs. I love them. Especially the camp fire, the s'mores etc. SO much nicer than the paper ones in regular kid books. I truly mean it SCG.

I think your true hit would be if you recreate the turkey/ guinea sparring match.

* edited to correct improper spelling, I originally wrote boos instead of books. Duh!
