Been thinking about buying the 2 trailers behind my property (if it bordered my property I would do it in a heartbeat) but looks like the ROI would be about 10 years. And countless headaches.


Canned one last time for the season and went out with a bang. Dropped a quart jar of boiling water into the boiling water bath. Water flew out and went all over my wrist and forehead/eye.

Fun. I feel like Smeagol in LOTR where the elven rope burned his wrists.

Thanks for all the advice. I had contemplated Rx cream but it doesn't appear to be that bad at this point. It is red and splotchy but the skin is intact.

I have boxes in my basement from 10 years ago, so it is definitely possible to ignore them in the basement, too.

OUCH!!! Wow. I actually made it thru canning this year with only minor "splotch" burns and only one jar failure. Just yesterday my early Christmas present from the DH arrived via UPS. I have always been VERY leary of pressure canners (too many horror stories from the older folks when I was younger) but I finally got brave after researching all the improvements etc. and DH ordered me one of the newer electric pressure cooker/canner/slowcooker/rice and bean cooker combination thingies. Heading off to town today to do grocery shopping and pick up needed stuff so I can properly put the thing thru it's paces. Only problem is he got me the bigger one (the thing will hold 3 whole chickens at once!) so I need to adjust most of the provided recipes.

That Silvadene stuff works pretty good. We saved the container the hospital gave us when one of or little ones pop open the microwave and dumped a boiling hot mac and cheese cup on her face and arm (skin peeled right off) :-(
Have used it for other burns since.

Agree on this stuff. Works great.

SCG, glad to hear that your burns aren't too serious. Reckon the kitchen is still one of the most dangerous places in the home, eh?

@Peep_Show - glass blowing has always fascinated me, but being a natural-born klutz, I know I need to surround myself with things I can (fairly safely) bounce off of. I, too, am curious to see your work . . . .

Thanks, y'all, for all the compliments on the crocheting. It's cotton yarn, which is something that I love working with, but have trouble figuring out projects for. A cotton afghan would weigh a ton! Funny that I dislike hand sewing, yet I enjoy doing this kind of thing. Cross- stitching of the regular type has never really attracted me, but this kind goes quickly enough to keep me interested. And it's large enough that I can still see what I'm doing *sigh*

Yes, Diva, I will be making extras; I'm working out rotating them 45o so I can make them "proper" potholders (which are supposed to hang from a loop on one corner, right?)

Wouldn't you know it, the round pillow insert turned up. It's 14", the square is 12"; I think the hen as she stands would be a little small for that size. Pondering putting her on a nest or giving her a couple of chicks to make the design fit the space better (of course, I could just go find a smaller round pillow)
