[Beer can]

I'm not sure why they are called paws.... or why they are nearly $2 a pound... but my local walmart has them for some reason...

Saw them on food networks 'Chopped' once, and another time rooster combs. Apparently it isn't too uncommon of a food cause the judges had them before. And apparently the correct way to serve them is without the toenails cause only one of the contestants removed them and the judge's took notice Lol!

squirrel and possum or coons

Mom always cooked squirrels parboiled then deboned dredge the meat in flour and fry in cast iron in butter, mmm good!

We're -26C and the wind gets up so we have a wind chill of -38C tonight. My poor roosters.

I'm tired of this. Still warmer than last week though.

Forecast says only -9C for Monday.

Squirrel....aka tree rats.....I remember my mom cooking them when I was about 7. I was a kid that would try anything my mom slapped on my plate but I only tried squirrel once. I've tried everything from eel to mountain oysters (which are delicious, BTW) but you cannot pay me enough to eat squirrel again. I'd have to be REALLY hungry.

A friend recently fixed them in a crock pot, deboned, then slow cooked some more in barbecue sauce. I still didn't have any desire to taste squirrel again.

Wickedchicken6 the fact that your girl has made it to 34 is a testament to the good care you have given her. A friend's horse lived to 30 and he was a pampered baby. Billie was a spoiled brat. She would lie down to sun in her corral and I'd take a book and sit down against her belly and read. If I set down in her stall, she would try to crawl in my lap.She was a horse with a real sense of humor and every time I see a black horse with a small white donut on her forehead I think of her.

Yeah, we are in the purple area also. I just told DH that I needed to hang a tarp to keep the wind from hitting the front of the coop tomorrow night and Saturday night. I checked combs tonight on my roosters and so far so good. My three month olds were holed up in the nesting boxes tonight. They had made themselves a hollow in a corner and I couldn't get them to come out and get on the roost. I finally figured that they might have a good idea and let them alone. Some times you just have to pick your battles.

@microchick you and me both hauled my old black monster wire crate in to get the 2 survivors of my hatches
integrated within a day or so to the main coop left it open so everyone could check it out
good before the girls come in

We just finally have squirrels show up in the last decade. Before that...no squirrels.

Some of mine have touched combs; some are have combs where the tips are whitish...others are blackish. I think the blackish ones are surface...the white tipped ones I don't know. I've got one Silkie with a cushion type comb, looks like it has a stitch in the middle of it...he looks the worst of everyone. I have three of my cockerels; two with tall straight combs...and the other has HUGE wattles...they haven't been touched at all. I find it all quite interesting. I'm giving electrolyte with vitamins to everyone while these cold temps play out. I crashed the other night and didn't wake up.

It was a cold night and the wind was blowing into the coop and I never got back to shut the venting in the front. It froze my heated waterer, but so far everyone seems fine. So glad they were getting vitamins.
I got DH to bring in 4 more square bales so the OEGBs and the subordinate roosters would have more places to sit off the floor, it's cold cement. No body goes where we bedded straw.

The Halloween chicks are doing well in the shed with the roosters. (In their own cage) Nice to see they can tough this out. As soon as it's nice I'll add them to the coop with the other chicks.

our water line froze out there the day it really did snow not since I use the cups
love them they cannot stand on them and have not figured out how to scrap in them

using the new pvc tube feeders they too are perfect no tipped over or lost food
when I go to fill them see them run to them waiting fill them about in 4 days

Odd that there are spots on the small combs, and not the big single combs... crazy odd actually.

How is your humidity? Reducing humidity can often help reduce the frostbite.
