The Old Folks Home

SCG I am so happy there was no disaster!!!

We are snowed in. Outside twice yesterday cleaning the heavy snow off the same roofs and fighting with the snowblower. Temps dropped and the wind picked up to 40 mph after dark so it's not as bad today. The wind blew some of the snow off and the new snow is a lot fluffier now that the temps are back in the single digits. DH tried to drive the car to the mailbox yesterday but had to back up into the garage so he borrowed my snowshoes this morning. Nothing but junk mail of course. I went outside to clean some of the current snowfall off the coop and greenhouse and of course the chooks wanted nothing to do with all that white stuff. The two Wyandottes "kids" did come out and scarf up all the scratch the older girls wouldn't venture out after and then scooted their fluffy butts back into the cozy coop. I just finished up changing their water, a bit more shoveling, filled the wild bird feeder and scooted my own boots back inside just as the wind picked up again. I am now back in my chair with my pup sleeping on my feet, watching the new snow fall and listening to DH try to locate the driveway with the snowblower. Not sure why. Haven't heard any sound of a snowplow out on the road yet so we can't go anywhere anyway. He'll ether give up or it will finally quit snowing (whichever comes first) and then I will go out and take over the snowblower. Now, however, it's time to make a fresh pot of coffee

@superchemicalgirl

You were trying to do a two person job with only one person....

That was the problem.

See, one person drives the car, the second person sits on the hood and tosses out sand infront of the car as you drive up.

That's how my dad and uncle delivered papers when they were kids, one would drive the car, the other would sit in the window with their feet in the seat and throw papers... yeah... they were probably around 10...

Your new BFF Bob that you met at the sandpit? I'm sure he would want to help since you and BF now make a concerted effort to wave at him (whether you see him or not) when you drive by his house.

Exactly.

If you aren't friends with bangor maine police dept on fb you might want to check them out. Tc often has some words of wisdom, a few laughs and more importantly heartwarming stories.

I checked out scrappy girls and have committed to making a scrappy America quilt this year.

I feel really guilty. It was 57 degrees here today. No wind. DH went for a walk in the woods. We wanted to pick up our game camera and check our mystery tree with the shredded bark. No return message from the Dept of Conservation and the only thing on our game camera was 4 fat does. One of them came right up to the camera and got a nice selfie of big doe eyes as she sniffed the silly thing.

I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to fix a leak in my rooster coop roof. It sure didn't feel like the middle of January though. I went into the coop to find about 10 fat lazy hens sitting on the roosts while the rest of the flock was out in the run enjoying the break in winter. I finally said OUT and stuffed their fluffy butts out the pop door. They weren't particularly happy as two roosters were waiting at the bottom of the ramp for them.I told them it was time to either start making eggs or babies so get to work.

I was surprised that only one came back in.

My condolences to all of you digging out. Please stay safe. I sure don't want reports of heart attacks.

And if it is any consolation, we are going to get hit by an ice storm this weekend. I hate Ice. I'd much rather have snow.

I would rather have the snow than the rain mostly our choices here
I hate the rain anymore love our home but hate the rain

Stock up on sand now.
I just told DH to save all the ashes from the wood stove for the rest of the week so he could spread them on the pat to the path to the chicken coop for me. It's uphill from the house and getting to it with a half an inch of ice on it will be a challenge at best. On the bright side, coming back to the house should be no problem at all especially if I'm on my back side sliding, LOL

The bright side is that I got a new printed panel on fleabay in the mail yesterday and if the weather does what they say it is going to do I'll have a chance to get it laid out for the runner I'm planning to quilt.

When I get it basted I'll take a picture of it.
