The Old Folks Home

Getaclue, sorry to hear that you are facing more procedures but glad that the ball is rolling on the way to getting you feeling better.

Keeping you in my prayers. There are just too many people fighting cancer on this forum right now.

I've got about half of my nets taken down. The governor of Missouri has issued a state of emergency for the entire state ahead of the ice storm that is expected to hit over the weekend. At least a quarter to half inch of ice is expected where we live but it could be up to 3/4s an inch with areas just to our south expecting up to an inch of ice. Wouldn't you know it, I just bought all new nets for my runs and got them up last week now I'm taking them all down except for the rooster run. That netting is old and needing replaced. Guess I'll let mother nature take it down for me as I still have the roosters out in their run. The main coop gang isn't happy at all. No nets means no outside. The red tailed hawks have been terrible this winter and the next door neighbor saw an eagle perched across the road from us last week.

We did find out that two Amish men out bow hunting about 2 miles from our house spotted a cougar on two different occasions. One had it walk right under his tree blind. We never heard from the conservation department about our tree damage but hearing about the cougar sightings pretty much confirms our suspicions in our own minds. The Amish men have a predator drive scheduled for the end of this month to thin out the coyotes. Now they are keeping a watchful eye out for big cats also. They were all very interested to hear about our tree damage so close to their farms. If I had as much stock as they do I'd be worried too. With all the sheep, goats, cattle, and horses around, a cougar would have a buffet dinner if the mood hit it.

Anybody else expecting bad weather this weekend?

Yes, the part of Michigan that is tucked up under Lake Superior.
People from that area shorten Upper Peninsula to 'The UP' or just 'UP'.

morning everyone!

Yep. we are very close to the UP. We "should" be able to usually see the lights several times a year, but like Alaskan, they seem to most often occur when we have cloud cover. Don't know the reason why, but it seems for us they occur most often in autumn and mid winter. Sure it must have something to do with the tilt of the earth.

Getaclue - plz hang in there

I very much understand pleural effusion thing (also dealt with the pericardial effusion) but I haven't had to deal with it since my chemo drugs were reduced. (yea). I have been very blessed a DH that has always been there for me. Sometimes to the point where I have had to kind of prop him up because he was more worried for me than I was

Once again, a small prayer and a big, but gentle,

I have to tell my UFO story. I was quite young, maybe 8 years old. One evening, I was riding in the backseat and my mom was driving. I was looking at the stars through the side window and I noticed one that appeared to be moving. I thought it was a plane, but it wasn't quite right for a plane. Too bright, too round, and no blinking lights on the front or back. It truly looked like a star that was moving. Those things didn't seem odd at the time, I just noticed. I watched it for a few minutes moving slowly across the sky and "passing" other stars as it moved to my left. Suddenly, it changed direction and speed and moved straight up very quickly. About a foot in my field of view, which of course would have been a great distance to the object. It stopped and sat there perfectly still in the sky for about five seconds, then streaked to my right and disappeared in an instant. I have no idea what that was. I will only say that it was very strange.

I have a similar one

We lived in Las Vegas at the time and it was our habit to lay outside on lawn chairs at night and watch the sky. I was about 9 or 10.

Dad was pointing out the Satellites and air planes then would stopped talking. Then he said that's not a plane and not a satellite... We watched it do the very same thing. though we could tell it was high up it did the same thing hover, then left or right then straight up faster then disappeared... NO noise.

This was at a time when the Jet Jockeys would break the sound barrier occasionally over town and bust a few store windows. They passed a law that they werent allowed to do that any more.

What I didnt know was Dad was working at Area 51 at the time....

I am so excited! We went to TSC today to look for some granules to get rid of ants and crickets. While we were there we looked at the Logic tech carports to see how much they were. As we were looking to build one for our rabbits so comparing prices. lol
Well the TSC we went to did not have the one we were interested in 12x20. So we asked them to call the other store in Demopolis to see if they had one and what the price would be if they did. So they did have one and it was on sale for 349.99. So we drove over there and TSC did not even have it in their computer to ring it up. And the box was busted open so I asked the manager if we could get a discount.
He had to go try to find a price for us. Then he came back and said he could not find it and with the box open he told us we could have it for 199.99! The manager said they are not going to be carrying them any longer. So we got a heck of a deal!

I only intend on keeping 4 adult rabbits so I have a bunch of room to play with. haahahah

I plan on using some of it to start seeds before spring! Yeah!

My house is in a prime area for using a telescope. We can see the Milkey Way.

deb

Um, but as you know earth is in the Milky Way. Doesn't that make it sort of impossible NOT to see it??

I heard an astronomer once say that the reason we don't have a documented FIrst Encounter is because Earth in on the wrong side of the tracks as far as location in the Milky Way.

It's so dark where we live that DH and I make it a point to lay out on the lawn and watch the meteor showers in the summer time. I've even laid in bed at night and watched for shooting stars out the window.

I don't know how big city dwellers stand it.
