The Old Folks Home

@getaclue Just have to thank you for the tip on basil for the flies. I hung fresh basil all over my coop and have let it dry. There is not one single fly in there, masses outside though. I am so grateful and owe you big time. Think I will have to plant acres of Basil.

I (not me) had some new year babies they can eat in peace it is wonderful.

Awesome I just am trying to figure out how to do this around my horses corral.....

I use the ordinary basil for cooking 'big leaf' grows like wild fire in house and outside but not in cold.. Works an absolute treat honestly
and also has 'calming' properties so great for chicks.

Actually have planted purple basil but the best is the big leaf one the Italians use, smells the strongest. Now hanging it from the tree outside - However I still have a huge pigeon problem so that is my next project.

Pigeon is good eating.... just sayin.

I know I need to break her. I have a hen that went stubborn broody like this for months, and was starving to death. She was so sweet, one of my favorites, and so eventually I let her hatch. I have let this turkey have eggs, but they're just not panning out into chicks. I should have given her a chick when I hatched a month ago but ... well hindsight, you know. I'd break her nest up but really I'm concerned about losing digits at this point. I was in the coop panicked one night that I came home late, trying to find Miss Piggy - thought she might be under the nesting boxes - not paying attention when the nasty turkey sprang into nest protect mode and got my elbow. She grabbed hard onto the flesh and started shaking it like she was trying to rip it from my body. I'm still bruised there. And that was through a down winter coat. I really have zero desire to get in there and break her up.

Maybe I could get a super soaker or something.

Maybe your bf could get ahold of her beak with gloves on and her and move her in the dark. And while he has her you can get rid of her nest. But you really need to show her who's the boss! That's the most important thing with turkey.
My hens could not figure out how to manage lockdown. The chicks were live till then with my girls. And maybe give your broody chicken some of her eggs to hatch.

Hey, Perchie, I'm kinda new but you might have seen me, anyway......due to unfortunate circumstances I have a new computer after 10 yrs with last one and am trying to get used to some stuff. Could/would you direct me to some place I could make intelligent decisions about new browsers and such?

I Know you.... LOL... You get about the same amount of time out of a computer as I do... LOL.

I have my computers built at Star Tech computers in El Cajon. They have been in business a very long time at least twenty years so thats saying alot. http://www.startechsandiego.com/

You can buy the components there and build your own or have them build it for you. They are very good on the phone with questions.

For browsers I use Firefox its free off the internet and has a pop up blocker that you can activate.... I have used Google Chrome with success as well. I dont like the one that windows pushes... so much I dont remember the name of it....

I'll let BF know his assistance is required in the coop and to bring his Kevlar gloves.

A little worried about the "LOL. . . you know me" but, yeah, Microsoft Edge keeps pushing

itself on me. Is that to be ignored? Says uses less battery, but not so user friendly in my mind.

I have been using Chrome to my satisfaction other than that. I would like to take advantage of

nice weather to surf outdoors w/o extension cables. Thanks!!

Nice quilt top Superchemicalgirl.

I'm working on a runner right now. It's a barn scene from Cranston Print Works. Since there are chickens everywhere I'm using a simple chicken wire pattern on the back and hope to finish it up tonight so I can start quilting on it. Problem is I took a fall on the ice last night. Thought I was being careful but I stepped on some glare ice that was in front of the rooster coop gate. Luckily I was reaching for the gate at the moment my foot shot out from under me and was able to grab a hold of the chain link fabric with my right hand. Unluckily, instead of falling and hitting the ground, I swung around and crashed into the the stupid 4/4 inch fence post.. I managed to catch it on the edge too and just laid on the ground for a minute groaning until I could catch my breath. Luckily I was wearing my thick lined hoody because I would have wound up with broken ribs again instead of bruises and a world of soreness. Just shows you that no matter how careful you are, mother nature can still blind side you.

I'm going shopping for strap on ice cleats or my boots..
