Thank you The tears have been shed and now the time to heal as she is at peace
no more of the pain or frustration

It still hurts

Sometimes as hard as it is it is a blessing when the end comes. I lost my mom in 99 after a long hard siege from dementia and cardiomyopathy along with micro strokes that slowly destroyed her brain. Dad in 06. He was 95 and passed in his sleep. He didn't know me in the end. Just went to sleep in this life and woke up in the next. What more could anyone ask for?

When you said that she had stopped eating and was sleeping all the time, the first thought in my head was Oh OH, that lady has made up her mind that it is time.

It happens more often than people realize.

But I'm glad to hear she's at peace now.

You have the same dates as me. I lost my Mom in '99 after 8 years of battling cancer. She was 47.
I also lost my maternal Grandfather (my maternal grandparents raised me) in 06.

Your Father had a really good passing. Our one employer had been ill and had been in the hospital. On the day he was to be discharged; he had a big breakfast, sat down in the chair in the corner of the room and passed away. How lovely to get to have a good breakfast first! I hope I'm as fortunate. He was 90.

maybe we are the best judges of when we should leave....
My husband's grandmother was a spit fire of a lady. And that would be an understatement! We're not close to that side of the family but when we got the call she wasn't doing well we went to visit. She cursed out the one man who kept entering the room. He was in the same facility and quite lost. She told us she wasn't doing so well, and that it was her time. She had things lined up to give us. The other family members must have gotten them for her. She passed away within a couple of days. She did everything on her terms and apparently dying was no different. She was quite a woman...lol.

I had dad on hospice the last year of his life. I kept working in the rehab facility where he was. I had him living with me until he almost burned the house down one night while I was at work. My pleas for help to my older brother was met with the response that they (he and his wife) had a life.Dad didn't want to live with them even if they would have taken him and when I said my only two options were to place him in the nursing home where I was working so I could keep an eye on him or quit my job and they provide some money so I could stay at home and take care of him. Needless to say, dad went to the nursing home.He did okay for about 6 months but then started a steady decline. I worked for 3 months after he passed and moved on to another job. I took care of both mom and dad for a total of almost 20 years.

No regrets.
