The Old Folks Home

Guess who got herself invited to the next meeting of the town Cemetery Committee?

I've requested of the town manager to "adopt" the 4 local cemeteries near me and start cleaning and minimal straightening work, for now, with eventual plans to begin preservation work like fixing broken stones and replacing bases.

I'm not sure exactly how this will go, the Cemetery Committee appears to be the only local committee that is "full" (and always is full) but I almost never see work done in our cemeteries besides grounds work. All done correctly and with survey work beforehand, pictures before and after and logs of what I've done.

I am going to come armed with a proposal for cost to start the cleaning and un-leaning process, plus an application for a MOCA workshop at one of the bigger cemeteries (just "cleaning and leaning").

If my town says no the sexton of one of the nearby towns says I can assist her on a volunteer basis.

Can't start the work until the ground thaws, so likely May/June timeframe, so I've got plenty of time. The meeting is in one week.

SCG, You are truly a person to be admired for giving of yourself to better your community. We need more caring souls like you in this world.
I hope the town Cemetery Committee realizes how fortunate they are to have you.

I've read through the last 2 years of town meetings for what pertains to the cemetery business. I think I'm well prepared to go in and discuss the issues that they have pending and maybe show that I'm educated, thoughtful, maybe helpful and not at all freaky. Normal. Totally normal.

The Cemetery Committee memberships are up in June...

Good for you!

Are you going to sign up for another term?

SCG don't get too normal or you won't fit in here with us.

I have trouble with the "freaky flag," too. People seem to be enjoying my company and sense of humor and then I say/do something perhaps perceived as "freaky". Then they start doing a slow retreat.

Is that what it is called? The Freaky Flag? I love it.When my husband and I got married we were living in a small town where he had his practice. Everybody knew everybody and we are pretty private people so everyone was going to friends of ours who also had a medical practice trying to get the skinny on the Doc's new wife. She's a good friend and her description of me was 'well, she's......colorful' It was a compliment and I took it as such.I mean, yeah, I wear my hair ultra short and spiked. My favorite clothes are jeans and t shirts when I wasn't wearing scrubs and I have multiple ear piercings. I was known for riding my scooter around town and when I wasn't riding a scooter I was riding a bike, recumbent, trike or upright.

Colorful?! Yep and still proudly waving my banner.

Oh and yes, I also talk to my chickens.

I once was telling my doctor that some people looked at me like I was nuts, he brushed that aside and said(tactfully) "I'd call you fascinating." I liked that term much better.

Colorful is also a good title.
