The Old Folks Home

Yep. My mother had H-pylori and wound up with a bleeding ulcer that almost killed her. My dad wound up having surgery for ulcers also. I talked to my doc about the H-pylori connection and he agreed and said I was basically taking the treatment for it now with the ppi inhibitor plus the rounds of antibiotics I had taken for Lyme disease. Still, the problem goes on. Happily I went back to my old dosage and this morning my stomach is liking me again. I suspect a lot of my stomach problems has to do with the long term medications I've had to be on for various medical problems down through the years. But hey! I've made it to 63.5 years of age so I'm not going to complain too much about the handful of pills I down every day as long as they work.

Superchemicalgirl is a treasure. I highly respect my pharmacist here in town. He keeps things straight for me and also goes to bat for me when the need arises. To have a high caliber pill pusher in a small town is a miracle.
I read a study last week about h.pylori resistance. You need to go to a different Dr. or get this one to prescribe another round--but use the correct anti biotic for h. pylori! Stomach acid reduces the effectiveness so you need to use the correct protocol.

Back to the article, taking caprilic acid along with the anti biotics significantly reduced resistance to the anti biotic. About 20% are resistant. Adding the caprilic acid got it to the 5% range--and very few needed a second round of anti biotics.

To be a good patient, you need to research stuff. Research the mechanism of how h. pylori works(hint, it reduces stomach acid). Let me know if an acid reducer seems like a good treatment. Getting stomach acid back up will actually help get rid of h. pylori.

Also adding a good pro biotic and flax fiber helps too. I put two tablespoons in a glass of water and drink it along with taking a pro biotic pearl before going to bed.

I want to add that I have had experience with Dr.s that do not really believe things that are learned about medicine after they finish school. Remember my DW and her tumor that was causing too much calcium in her blood. Her Dr. was supposed to be watching this problem for about 8 years. He was still arguaing that she did not need surgery to remove the tumor after she had passed over 100 kidney stones! He was using a proven wrong treatment of increasing Vit. D, which actually will make the problem worse.

This Dr. is very well loved in Woodland. He was thanked in an Obit a couple of weeks ago for his compassionate care as the person approached the end of life. That does not make him a good Dr. though.

Healing vibes being cast out to everybody!

@ronott1 the problem is that I've looked up the antibiotics used for resistant h-pylori and I've been on extended doses of all of them along with the PPIs as recommended at one time or another since having my stomach problems. A lot of my trouble comes from the fact that I have a chronic inflammatory disorder similar to RA (it's actually described as being atypical RA) that causes inflammatory flares in my body. Sometimes in my stomach, sometimes intestines, sometimes in joints and soft tissues. I've lived with it since I was 26 years old. It's just the way I am and the way my body works, or doesn't depending on how you look at it, LOL.

I take a load of pre and pro biotics, flax oil, omega (naturally distilled, very important) oils and enough supplements to keep a health food store in business. Doctors are at a loss to help me so we treat the symptoms as they pop up, and yes, my doctor is young, knowledgeable and considered to be one of the best in the area. And while my husband, Doctor Hunny as I call him, isn't young anymore, he's tops in my book. Some things just can't be fixed. They can be treated so symptoms are at a minimum and for that I am really really grateful. Many on the forum are fighting cancer right now. Compared to what these brave people are suffering, my temperamental stomach, bad joints and back are nothing. I've been very lucky to be able to control the things that hurt me with a little juggling of medicines and learning to live within my abilities. The latter is the one I have the most trouble with.

Have you tried caprylic acid?

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...ywords=caprylic+acid&rh=i:aps,k:caprylic+acid

Twice a day for two weeks.

After all of the anti botics are finished you may need a biodome transplant!
