The Old Folks Home

I did it in that order, too! I almost freaked out because I wanted to make a pumpkin pie. I had the pie crust already made (I batch and freeze) and all the ingredients including duck eggs(!!) except a can of evaporated milk. Dejected, I began to put all the supplies away. When I put the frozen pumpkin puree back into the freezer I spied a bag of frozen Maine blueberries from this past summer.
I might have significantly burnt the edges of my blueberry pie by forgetting it was in the oven and then going outside to complete farm chores, but aside from the crust edges, it looks perfect.
It might not be pumpkin, but I persevered for pie.

I'm pretty sure I need that recipe.
It's pretty simple.

In a small bowl add a tablespoon of sugar and a quarter cup of hot as you can get it tap water. Stir to dissolve.
400

Sprinkle in yeast and stir to dissolve.
400

While you wait for your yeast to get frisky, get a big bowl. Put in a half cup sugar, quarter cup oil, one egg and a quarter cup of hot hot tap water. Whisk to combine.
By then your yeast should look like this.
400

Add it to your big bowl stuff and whisk just to combine. Then add two cups of all purpose flour and mix with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula while adding another cup of flour until it is a sticky ball. Then in the same bowl or on a lightly floured surface knead the dough for five minutes, keeping your hands floured.
400

400

Flatten the dough into a rectangle with your hands or a floured rolling pin.
400

Mix together cinnamon and sugar till it's yummy. Smear your rectangle with softened butter and cover with the cinnamon and sugar.
400

Roll it all up, cut into inch wide slices, put onto a sprayed sheet pan.
400

400

Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm kitchen (or under your wood stove) until doubled in size.
400

Bake at 350 for about 12-15 minutes. Then smear with icing or caramel sauce and eat.

Looks good thank you for sharing the recipe and the photos. I'd probably add some vanilla to the dough and maybe some raisins. I've been tweaking my cinnamon raisin bread recipe for a couple years, now. If I hadn't of already made 2 loaves and a pie I'd make some of that today, too. Going to have to find a recipe for the icing, though.

I just used store bought icing this time. It was already in the fridge. I make my own caramel sauce, though. But Maddy and I had the last drubs of it stirred into our coffee.

I have not been on BYC much have not been well. Just had 3 stints put in and another unblocked a week ago Friday. I am still not up to par.
But feeling much better.

I was doing some sewing and making a few gifts for my grands.

Well done!!!!

Finally starting to warm up here. Went out and got some groceries and some chicken feed for the impending doom storm, and just got my bread started. I feel so lazy, it's already 11.
We've been barely above zero here for days and the nights have been pretty "crispy"with howling winds but the wind finally laid down today. Should start snowing here shortly but most of it is going to miss us to the south, should get less than 6" here. and that's it. All the really heavy stuff isn't going to swing north til it's heading your way. Sorry. For whatever crazy reason, are part of northern WI has been missed by all the really nasty storms this winter that either mostly stayed to our south or missed us to the west. Not complaining mind you, we've done our share of shoveling. It's been so crazy I'm not even attempting to predict what spring will be like, or if we will even have one.

Now you guys have me thinking about making something for this evening. I might cheat and make some cinnamon rolls with caramel sauce out some bread dough I have in the freezer.

Now I have to get busy and finish organizing the front bedroom and get the brooder set up before our road trip to TSC tomorrow.

Thanks Chicki. :) How have you been?

maddiesmawmaw those cinnamon rolls look wonderful!

Scg when you mentioned you were going to make some bread, I had to have some. lol
I made a loaf of buttery sweet bread and have home made chicken pot pie in the oven. I also made my first toddler dress from a pattern.
I think it came out pretty well.

I still have to get some snaps for the back. But it was fun! I have a couple other patterns ordered that I am waiting on from Simplicity.

Deb, that missing in action I thought was so funny, I had to share. lol

I'm not a happy camper. The wire I ordered from Amazon was supposedly sent on the 6th., and scheduled to arrive on Friday the 10th, as per an email they sent me. It didn't come. They sent a new arrival date, the 15th. I checked the UPS website, using the tracking number, and it says the label was printed, but the wire was never picked up, or taken to them to be delivered. I wanted to get everything done before starting my chemo. That's not going to happen.

maddysmaw, the cinnamon rolls look delicious! I like to put the icing, and sprinkle chopped pecans on top. For the icing, I use powdered sugar, and a few drops of milk, until it's the right thickness.

chicka, I love both of those aprons, especially the purple one, since purple is my favorite color.
