The Old Folks Home

Diva I never noticed a difference in taste between toms and hens.  Both were equally delicious. :drool

Some yrs ago, I bought 15 RIRs from our feed mill, in-laws bought 15 broad breasted white turkeys. From May to fall the Toms were 40-50lbs dressed, WOW! I ended up with somehow one of the hens, couldn't chop her head off, she did lay many eggs and was super sweet. They might be fast growing but nothing like CornishX chickens, live and get around just fine.
And beautiful quilt, good luck on the competition. Old guy that lives over the hill from me, pretty funny, old bluestone quarryman, I would have never known if I didn't read it in our local paper, has won many competitions with his quilts, had pics of the quilts, really nice. I would use them for wall art hangings, one was big and round with jutings out like the sun. Guy has baseball mitts for hands, hard to believe he is in to quilting

Penny, you will have roses before you know it!

I still have photos of mine from last year. I love the two colors that I have, I planted a real dark red yr. before last, nothing..I don't think it has enough room where it is, doesn't get enough light. Will try and replant it down at the other end. Now all I need is for that cat to stay out of that end. It's so full of kitty doo doo, I can't imagine the uruine. My bush I did plant there last yr. isn't doing well. Too much kitty urine. :(

My roses from last yr. You've all seen them. Has anyone ever done the dark lavender? I think I will do a white one for sure. By my red. :) If it lives when I replant it. Pink. Lavender, Pink, Red, and White. :)

Love this coral color.

My yellow
I love roses. Your's are beautiful.

I've been contemplating starting a few but our ground has such a high clay content that I just don't know how well roses would do. I've always had rich loam at my disposal and been able to grow beautiful roses. Here it's hard to get anything to grow well without working on the soil. We planted two dwarf apple trees tonight and added a heavy dose of crumbled drywall to break down the clay....at least that's what I think it does, they just told us to do it with clay soil when we planted our original orchard.

I've grown whites before. I LOVE their fragrance. What I remember about them though is that I had trouble with 'rust' like spots on the pedals and their edges. It made them hard to grow.

Quote: actually it is is curable the rust spots a very old problem May 22, 2016 - Natural remedies for rose diseases: black spot, mosaic disease, mildew, rust, leaf scorch, canker, root ... White oil is also very good in getting rid of rose scale. ... This is using 1 part stinging nettles to 1 part chamomile flowers.

I've used banana peel to cure black spot in roses. Works really well. And I grow chamomile. Now if I can cure the clay problem.......

Is it fair to your family to deny yourself the one thing that keeps you from going crazy in a world turned upside down. When I was a kid I rode in the back of the pickup, I rode my bike without a helmet, I waded through swampy bottoms barefooted with pants rolled up to my knees, I went swimming in the creek on a hot summer day wearing only my birthday suit, I said yes sir to my elders, I said thank you when given a gift, even if just a penny piece of gum, I did my chores without complaining, although sometimes I would negotiate the timing of them. Kids today don't know how much fun they are missing by playing all these computer games. And what will they have after all of these games are over? Poor eyesight, aching back, and no knowledge of the real world. Thank you for listening to the ravings of a crazy old man who doesn't know anything about the world today.
