The Old Folks Home

We have one field left to seed. I've had a massive headache for a few days now so I haven't been very mobile.

I got Ms. Rock moved to her kennel. She's done very well since I put down her mate. She's such a sweet, quiet bird...SO much nicer than I anticipated.
(Below is last week and the first time I held her.):love

I've been hatching; first chicks and now guineas.

I had a broody setting on one day's count of guinea eggs. Well, they hatched yesterday...and they're the spawn of Satan! I was going to leave all five with her; one pearl and 4 lights...so I left them with her last night in the nest box.

Changed my mind today, I have enough on my plate trying to accommodate a broody so I left the pearl with her and brought the rest in to put with the older keets.
 They were on the ground with her for 3 minutes...not even. They're looking up to get out of the box! They bite my pudding cup and try to pull it away when I'm watering them! They're just a day old! (The black marks on their heads are marker.) Guilty as charged.

On the bright side they're competent keets...lol. gig.gif

Lol...thank you! It's supposed to be a moving gif. Perchie posted the gif program she used so I could make it fit. I got it to fit...but the darn thing still won't work! :barnie
Now I'm wondering if it's too...much for anyone just joining?

KFC has poutine??
Of course you're KFC and my KFC don't carry the same thing...like biscuits. We don't have the biscuits. I watched everyone put honey on theirs...so I put honey on mine. Is that what a person's supposed to do with it? Here we have buns.:D

I will look for the poutine next time I'm in one. Our Chicken Chef restaurants make the most delectable poutine. :drool
NO you have to ASK for it... and the only reason I saw it was that was the first thing that popped up on the KFC site... it happened to be for Canada..... LOL.

Just remember by the time they are two weeks they can FLY... not with any accuracy but straight up and OUT. So you better have a lid on that brooder.

I know I raised up forty of the little Jack booters in my moms garage. Moms garage will NEVER be the same....:lau

Gotto put em under game fowl hens if possilbe.

I MISSED YOU!!!!
toe tapping roo.gif

Don't leave us like that again! You hear???

So glad your little chickie (s) are doing well.
Been busy myself (and the DH) this week as well. Two old fogies trying to finish the construction of a predator (aka bear) and northern weather, proof addition to the coop in this crazy heat before the new chickies arrive next week. Yes, I caved and ordered chicks, this time from Hoover's Hatchery, all vaccinated of course (Ditto on the $#%&^ Mareks) BUT the addition means no more brooding in the front bedroom!!! :yesss:

Just heard DH go out the door so I better get out there and get to work!

Thank you and congratulations on the new babies.

Doc, my sick Welsummer rooster woke us up at dawn crowing his brains out. He is still crowing! I uncovered his cage and he is acting 100% better and it looks as though the swelling on the right side of his face is slowly going down. Guess I'll keep pumping Terramycin down him. I'm so glad I saw the swelling yesterday. He was sitting on the roost with his head hanging down and his eyes closed. I didn't see what was going on with the right side of his face until I got him out of the coop and into the daylight. Thinking the worse I had taken my .22 revolver out with me and had actually dug a grave for him. I'm so glad he is responding to treatment. He is such a sweet rooster, very mild mannered and handsome.

When I called my dear husband (Doctor Dear) out to take a look at Doc's eye, he immediately said that he had a haemophilis infection of some sort and told me what antibiotics to use. I'm sure DH never thought in his wildest dreams that all the years he took care of human eyes, he would be taking care of chicken eyes in his retirement.

Regarding Marek's yes, @chickisoup I feel the same way about it. My husband asked me how Doc had picked up this infection and I told him, thank Mr. Marek.

Very thorough compilation! And sadly, correct most of the time. I'm guessing you've just had one of these happen? That sucks.

I however, can proudly say I'm none of the above in the context that they've been written. The closest one I've probably been "I need to ask my spouse." So I ask, we discuss and I get back to them on the answer. Usually it's to get it.:ya

My take on your points:

<SNIP>

“Do you have more pictures”…..Actually means: I’d like to waste your time with more

photos, and info before I Never buy anything.
I've asked for pics...but never more pics. People really do that?

I wouldn't ask for "More" pics, but I would ask for "different" pics. Say, someone was selling a mare that SOUNDED good, but they just had a head shot and a very unflattering 3/4 angle from the shoulder while she was grazing pic... Now, I would want a side view, preferably with her head up or level and it would be nice but not required to have shots from the front and back showing feet and legs. Just so you can see what you're getting in the way of soundness issues.

Couldn't agree more. Ive also asked for picks of the bottoms of feet as well.
I have dairy goats and while I love a pretty colored goat, what I need to see are hooves and udders.lol
