The Old Folks Home

Got another one....That makes 4, so far. Today is actual hatch day, and eggs are still rocking, so I should have more by morning. Dh did not start his nonsense about them needing pillows for their heads, and maybe little beds, so they would be comfortable when they sleep. Whew! He's learning.
:woot Any more??? I guess I was supposed to go into lockdown 2 days ago. I guess I should get on that. laughing.gif

You should tell him he should start making the pillows...stat! They need to be comfortable! :lau

OK, been away quite a while... forgive that I don't have time to catch up on some 1350 posts since I was last here  Lost all my "subscribed to" threads and no time to go hunt them all down either. Hope all are well, happy, involved (in something good), or working toward all of the above.
It's good to see you! Glad you made it. :hugs

Your subscribed threads are under "watched threads" which is located under the line of buttons at the top of the page that are in line with the backyard chicken logo (if you're on a computer)

They look like a jumbled mess compared to the old site...but if you scroll to the bottom and click on "Show all watched threads"...it seems to put them more in the order they were on the old site. Or...at least that's what I'm finding.:D

You're friend actually told you that? That hilarious!
You and I will get along just fine...since this is me the rest of the time. ;)

Yep, I always know who my few true friends are , because they call it like it is. I never trust a person who says, "You look so pretty" when I'm actually drooling on myself. :lau

Boy if I had more space here I could tell some wild stories of camping.
We spent many years taking the kids on wkend and wk long tent camping trips in the mountains here. Camping with infants, toddlersand teens.
What a ride!lol

I don't know what happened to me... I grew up camping constantly, all summer & most long weekends. After I had kids, we did a couple trips with toddlers & that was that. I haven't camped (outside of my yard) for well over a decade. Being overrun with pets makes it hard for us all to vacation at the same time too.

okay 4 pages got through them all but not enough coffee to make sense of most.. did not notice any yelling @chickisoup Sorry about the guinea hen loss @Wickedchicken6
Thanks you Penny. :hugs

That's so true...about friends.

We never camped, growing up. I have no connection to it and the same...livestock and pets put a big damper on being able to go away for more than a day...lol.
(Which is a very good reason for me to stay home) ;)

I got home an hour ago. Loved spending time with the kids and grands.
Wicked I hope your hatch goes great.
I hope the chicks arrive save and healthy.

Why is it I am having such a hard time trying to click like on the posts?
I click it un-click's over and over 4-6 times.

That's fantastic chicka! Makes your heart sing, doesn't it?
Thank you for the well wishes on the hatch. I am SO going to be totally over run with guineas! :wee gig.gif

I'm finding I have to click on the button twice every so often. But I also noticed slower loading times so I was thinking it was my computer.

I have noticed that I can click a like on my phone, it says it's been clicked...yet when I get on the computer...it's not clicked.

Ok I've got a good question and need some suggestions. What and how long do you feed your chickens before you butcher them to make them tender? Last year I had some tough birds

I have regular joe chickens and I butcher around 6 months of age, otherwise they're scrawny. After butchering and cutting up and putting into the vacuum seal bags they sit in my fridge for about 48 to 72 hours to be completely out of rigor before they go into the freezer (in the meantime I make stock from the extra bones, necks, etc - cook in a slow cooker about 24 hours until the meat falls off the bone, then strain - meat goes into 1 lb packs for freezing for stew, stock gets canned, veggies and bones/marrow go out to the birds to eat). Some of them are a bit tough or chewy, but if you brine them for 24 hours before cooking they are very tender. I have some boys that will probably go to camp on Sunday.
