The Old Folks Home

Wicked it is pretty quite around here since I don't have all the birds anymore.
I keep trying to get dh let me get just one turkey. He won't let me. :hit
No turkeys? :hugs Tell him you're getting 10. And then tell him you're just getting 2 turkeys...he'll be relieved that way. :D

Would he let you keep Old English Game Bantams? They're so small, you could have hundreds. Or you could have a couple and hardly know it.;) Even DH likes them. And they give the best eggs. :love Oegb eggs are all we eat so the LF eggs can go to others. Two eggs fit on a toast perfectly and you get yolk in every bite.:drool

Or better yet...tell him you know a crazy woman who has 60 roosters. Everything will seem better to him by comparison. :lau

Tell him she'll send free guinea keets. (Just don't mention I'm from Canada) And then show him a YouTube video of guineas yelling. He'll run and get a turkey for you.;) :D
:thumbsup

Morning everyone. Wont' even say Good. It's Monday.

@getaclue, how are you feeling these days?

Busy weekend here. Hot, humid and rainy. Most of the rain hit after sunset though so the days were just sticky and hot. We managed to get all the harvested wood split and came up 1-2 cords short of being done so hi ho hi ho it's off to kill trees we go. Luckily we aren't felling viable trees but thinning out overgrowth of spindly, bent trees so the old growth trees have a chance to mature.

Yesterday I pulled my first dish pan of beets. I'm amazed on how well the garden is doing after it had such an rotten start. I need to pick cukes today and put the beets in the freezer.

Chickens are doing well for a change. My setting Welsummer hen is down to three viable eggs. Two had quitters in them and one is a dud. Hope she is happy with just 3. My speckled Sussex hen, a first time broody, has 6 viable eggs under her that are developing nicely.

I have 6 chickens that I'm expecting to loose at some point in the near future to Marek's. Luckily, knock on wood and mutter a prayer, there aren't any new birds with symptoms popping up and my hens that are symptom free and hopefully resistant are now 27 months old.

Hope everyone has a good Monday!
Good morning! :frow

good morning every one :caf headed off to Olympia to see other son and his wife both useless unless they want something from you but not work but BF celebrating fathers day with them today at pint's and quarts ale house at capital mall even put earrings in caregiver had to find the wholes:eek:again

People on airplanes now wear jammies!

I remember when as a kid, traveling with my dad, men wore suits and ties on planes, women wore snazzy dresses and fancy jewelry.

Not saying then was better or worse...just that change blows my mind. :lau

Now when you fly you can't have a belt on, have to take off your shoes, can't have metal on you anywere... That's why people have started wearing jammies to fly. Comfortable, covers everything, no belts or anything to set off the metal detector... I've even seen where some people showed up in bathing suits!

Yes, the cell phone certainly has changed things and not for the better. People use them for almost everything but, talking.

Talk on a modern cell phone??? What are you talking about? lol, my phone is ok for talking, but that's not what it was actually made for, it's a small computer that also happens to have an app so you can make phone calls... My last cell phone was awful for talking on...

I've tried most of that. We did keep over 200 birds every spring so he knows what it's like. :lau
He said he's trying to wind down to retire not ramp up.
He said we can't take a turkey camping with us. I told him I could in a dog crate and that I would even walk it in a harness. Which I have done. :wee

Just came back in for lunch. We dropped a 12 inch trunk white oak tree. While I was hauling slash limbs up the hill to the edge of the pond I stumbled upon a pile of Guinea Hen feathers. Last week I found the white chicken feathers on the west side of the pond.

This is starting to be creepy. Todays feather are about 200 feet from my chicken run.

Is there a CSI for fox murders?

Oh darn. I can see already that's DH's thoughts...about doing less.

I can see that's totally doable...taking the turkey in a dog crate.
No different than a dog in a dog crate, right?

What are you trying to find out? Maybe a motion sensing game cam will tell you what you want to know

Ok...that IS creepy. And way too close to you is my thinking. I like Ron's idea about the game camera.:clap

There's no neighbors close that have birds of said description? Foxes can have territories up to a 12 miles. (if I remember correctly)

DH came across two dogs' remains by the fence line on one of our pastures. We know one was likely belonged to our uncle's neighbor. The other...we don't know. Our guess is they were out running and they met some coyotes.

When Max was younger we used to see the coyotes come up and try to bait him into following them. Thankfully he was intelligent enough to circumvent their ulterior motives.

You need a motion sensing game camera with remote discharging capabilities. pistolero.gif
