The Old Folks Home

I could see the advantage of bi focal glasses for driving. It is getting hard to see the dash without glasses even though I can see fine up the road
I took to my new prescription like a duck to water. If I look down through the progressive part of the prescription and move my head back and forth...it will cause a bit of distortion. I have to look for it.

DH on the other hand hasn't quite enjoyed the change over as much. They measure where you look through and mark it. I wonder if they marked his a bit too high or low. I urged him to go back but he's still trying them out. He wears his old glasses for everyday in case they get hit and broke. So I'm sure that isn't helping.

I love our optometrist, he explains everything so nicely. He shows me the blood vessels in my eyes...of which there has been no diabetic changes at all.:yesss: My blood vessels look amazing to me, a nice size and well developed, not weak or atrophied...so I had to ask him. He confirmed they looked good. He also explained why we need reading glasses and progressives, I think it had something to do with the hardening of the lenses? (I think I need a bigger brain hard drive, I've apparently dumped my cache and deleted some files because I can't remember exactly what he said.) It was fascinating though.:thumbsup

Capricorn Farm - my mom had one near sighted and one far sighted eye. When I went to an eye doctor for free exam - he said I did too. He said I was lucky I wouldn't need reading glasses for quite a while(he was right) and yet with the far eye I could spot a dime across 3 lanes of traffic. Wouldn't leave till I was able to retrieve it.

Finding money is always much better than losing money. I loved to walk and would go quite far. But going alone got boring, so started picking up other things I found.
Have quite a collection of screw drivers, golf balls, snow brush for windshields (never had a car) , pocket knives, flashlight, full rolls of duct tape, police -"Caution tape,".

When I had my cataract surgery, I asked the Dr. if I could keep my eyes the same way, with far & near vision. He said sure. WELL he goofed up, he put the far vision lens in my near eye, and my far sighted eye became my reading eye. After 65 years of seeing a certain way, I had to relearn which eye to use. Post op I told him my near vision was awful etc. that's when he realized he messed up. Oh well....
That's awful! I don't understand why surgeon's don't confirm with patients what's going to happen. It would take a few extra minutes but it would probably save a lot of grief.

When my sister had to go in for surgery on her knees, (a few different times) she'd write on the knee and list what procedure they were doing so they couldn't mess it up. One shouldn't have to do that though.
That is very sad!
They would not fix it for you?
I agree with Ron.

I am sure they give the patients a paper in medical terminology with possible effects, side effects and outcomes. They tell you, sign here, and people do. But they don't tell you in plain language what it can mean to the patient.

Ron I don't know if they can repeat cataract surgery - he never offered. Medicare picked up the tab so I was grateful I could still see period.

Actually being born with one far and one near eye worked fine for me - I figured if glasses got lost or broken, I could still get around.. Just didn't like the role reversal bit due to Dr. mistake. I guess you have to write a note on your face saying "THIS EYE."

. My father's eye sight was so bad that the army doctor assured him that he would never be called up - couldn't see without his glasses. Of course he WAS called up but, never saw the battle front. He and others were assigned to clearing a landing strip at Ft.Nelson(I think that was Alaska) .That was all he ever talked about.

Ron when you do find a place to have roosters make sure they are far enough away that they don't drive you to crazy. lol
My coop is about a 1/4 mile from the house and I did not mind having so many roosters crowing in the mornings most of the time.

As for ducks I am no expert but when I had some hatching I just got a shoe box size plastic tub from the dollar tree and they loved it. They could wash their face and after a couple weeks they could get in the water and it not be too deep for them. When they got bigger I gave them a kiddie pool with blocks to be able to get in and out of the pool.

One of my neighbors used to have a roo right outside my bedroom window. They didn't keep him in a coop & that sucker would start crowing incessantly at 2am every night (which is usually when I'm trying to go to sleep) & would go all night long. It was making me so sleep deprived that my eyes were spinning. Eventually one of the other neighbors complained & they had to rehome him. I have other neighbors about 2 houses down that always have roo's too. They aren't in coops either, but I never hear those guys. Everybody who spends the night can hear them though & by morning, they all want them dead. They cant understand how we don't hear it. I can hear them a little bit during the day & I love it!

My mom used to have about 100 parakeets in our backyard when I was little & I never heard those either, but none of my friends could stand the noise. The really weird thing is that there's a train track across the field from my house. I thought I'd get used to that too, but after 18yrs here I've never been able to. DH & kids completely tune it out, but it will wake me out of a dead sleep every time.

With my husband's procedures, we sign before he even gets into undress. His knee surgeon spoke with him before going under...and I think that's nice. His other surgeon for an internal procedure shows up after he's out. I'd fell better knowing the surgeon and I were on the same page...lol. I've never been in for surgery...I hope to keep it that way.:fl

I was thinking post-it-notes, ;)

The boy came her the other night instead of going home...:lau Silly boy! He's knows I have all the roosters here. They start about 2:50am...at the very first light showing in the north.

How do roosters get ANY sleep? No wonder they're cranky and want to fight all the time! fighting0074.gif

Capricorn one of our bus drivers has a blind brother. He said his brother had cataracts and had to have surgery even though it wouldn't improve his vision. Said the doctor told you can't leave cataracts in( for some bad reason). This wasn't my eye doctor. I don't know it that is true or not.
