The Old Folks Home

You are not able to get an authorization from the insurance company to override the 28 tablets? Did you call your insurance company to confirm that? The pharmacist may not know

My pharmacist urged me to call my doctor's office today and have them get working on an override so it is up and running in time for my next refill. I did as soon as I got home from my quest for an E Collar for our chewed up dog. Vet didn't have any. WHAAAAAAT? Usually in the past if we took a dog to the vet with a splinter in it's foot, it came home with an E Collar or the Cone of Shame as I call it. Our regular Vet's dad is a veterinarian also and did the surgery on Lu on Sunday. I don't think he had them in his office either.

Whow.

I had to drive all the way into Kirksville to buy one at Orscheln's. She isn't too happy wearing it, poor baby, but at least she is leaving the largest wound alone.

Once home, I called my doctor's nurse and told him what was going on. I'm sure they will get on it. I also told my pharmacist that the next time I got it refilled, if the insurance company jerked his chain, just toss the rx in the bag and I'd pay OOP. Shouldn't have to but I will. My only consolation is the fact that I'm not alone.Others are having to deal with the same mess.

I love the runner. I actually looked at the one I have been working on since last winter.....that's a step forward for me.

Yep, welcome to the Affordable Healthcare Act. I have exactly one year until medicare starts for me. I can hardly wait.

I'll probably be arguing for every medicine I take.:duc

I can't match SCG's runner but I did get the what ever it was they called it that was supposed to be needlepoint but wasn't thing that I got earlier in the year finished and mounted:

I was really disappointed that they didn't 'bling' out the whole picture. There was really a lot that could have been done with it that they didn't do but I like it and have it hung in the kitchen.

DH asked me if I was ready to do some 'real' art now and I told him yep and got out my sketch books and pencils.

Why can't they just appreciate what we do and leave off with the snide remarks?

Have our phone back today. DW tried talking to them online cause we still had internet and it's supposed to be easier and quicker...Was a joke just as bad as calling them. After a hr she ended up telling them they were no help and she'd call from her mom's later. Went to our county fair, got home and phone back.
As we came up the driveway there was something up near the house, what's that? Looks like mud from in between dually tires, maybe Frontier came? Rounded around the house and I said nope UPS, DON'T LOOK!
DW's birthday coming up oldest DD bought her a variable speed stand mixer, asked me if she'd like it, yes I'm sure she would. Didn't tell her I'll probably use it more than she Lol!
Bought it from Target, they shipped it in the on the shelf box with shipping label stuck to it, wow that's different, bet they save some $$ by not shipping in another box. DD was po'd, not only did mom see what it probably is but more potential for damage shipping that way.

Not being snide, cynical yes, snide no. Working in the medical profession for over 40 years, watching what they do to doctors profits and patient's rights tends to make a person extremely cynical about the health insurance industry.

SCG, Very much appreciate your suggestions and help.Thank you.
We're lucky, have excellent health insurance, through our union UFCW. Don't like much else about them except for our ins. When aca was being discussed our union was all for it, advertised and campaigned for it, then after it was implemented fought against it, all the sudden our ins wasn't eligible..what? It was excellent ins! Guess they needed to add a couple things because of the new law and it cost them tons. Our ins is contract negotiated on a three yr contract with our company so the union had to pay the difference until the next contract negotiations Lol!

I don't know about you, but i am tired of getting smaller quantities of everything for the money. Those companies just want to boost the bottom line. Pitiful. The mail person left our package out on the road by the mail box, 400 feet from our house! Too lazy to drive to the house! A bear could have broken into the box and eaten those products! We even put in a circular drive so it is easier to get in and out. They marked the package that the driveway was impassible. What a load of poo!

The one really bad thing that is happening to the medical care industry is the end of the lone proprietor doctor. A single doctor, working in an office by himself has a very slim chance of surviving for very long. Doctors are finding that the only way to make a profit with the advent and growth of the insurance industry is by operating in groups where multiple appointments can be made for the same time period to offset the discounts that the ins companies insist that the medical professionals give the insurance subscribers. For instance, a doctor charges 200.00 for an office visit. The patient's ins company reimburses him 76$ for the office call and the patient is responsible for 24$ (after deductible) along with a 20$ copay. What happens to the other 80$? He writes it off. The bad thing though is that the person without the insurance has to pay the whole 200$

Doesn't make sense does it? Nor does it seem fair to either the doctor who is paying staff, operating expenses, outrageous licensing and his own malpractice insurance. Most are not happy about having to make up the losses they experience from the ins companies at the expense of their cash paying patients. The single doctor has no choice, other then selling his practice to a hospital or bringing in partners.

Many docs around us are no longer accepting ANY insurnaces. It's cash out of pocket only. Smart move that I hope catches on. As far as basic medical care from a family type physician, it may be the wave of the future for health care and decrease the power of the insurance companies.

How do I know all of this? Working with my husband in his medical practice for almost 10 years, and the nursing home industry before then. It all was a real eye opener to me. And no, it's not getting better.

@Beer can, I sure hope all that doesn't rise up to bite you guys on the backside during the next contract negotiations.

Thanks for listening to my rant. It's been a long, hard week for me and it's only Tuesday.
