Oh the bonk would drive me bonkers!

I have not cracked any of our hickory nuts to try them. I read they are a bit sweeter than a pecan.
I have a friend that has a black walnut tree. She asked me how to crack them.
Lol I tried to read up on it. But all I got was to soak them for days.

In TN they run the black walnuts over with a car. I used to collect buckets of acorns to feed my goats, they love them!

Luckily, it is just once in a while. But it is a big tree. We may be listening to bonks all winter. At least the dogs don't bark at the bonks.

We've been having an unnatural heat wave for this time of month. (92-94-96, then supposed to cool off al ot by mid-week. Who knows. I have 3 seasons of clothes out because I never know what I'll need.

Going to see "Kingsman: the Golden Circle," lunch, and light shopping - . Hope to see "Stronger" with Jake next week, and after that "The Mountain Between us," pant, pant, starring my latest crush "Idris Elba."

We have hickory trees galore. They started dropping nuts two weeks ago. Spooky as all get out to hear them hit the underbrush at night. There are also acorns everywhere. I'm surprised the deer aren't after them.

We got the majority of our apples picked. Estimating 3 to 4 bushels off of 4 semi dwarf trees. The trees are just 4 yrs old and seem to be the most resistant to fire blight which has hit our Asian pear trees hard.

DH's idea of getting a cider press is starting to sound like a good idea.

I think honestly we would do better to cut our fruit trees down and start over

Yeah, we have fought the deer and raccoons for our fruit ever since the trees popped their first blooms. Last year they stripped every ripe peach off our Red Haven the night before we were planning to pick. We found all the pits in tidy little piles so maybe raccoons?

Another reason to hate the nasty things.

I was very disappointed in our trees in general. We bought them from Stark's in southern MO. Don't get me wrong, when these trees work, they produce big time. The problem with them is that when we bought the first 9 trees from them, we specified that we wanted disease resistant trees and were told that the Asian pears and the trees we bought were hardy disease resistant. Well they weren't. Many were susceptible to fire blight. We have been replacing the vulnerable trees with truly resistant trees, Candy Crisps, Enterprise, Arkansas Blacks, Red and yellow delicious. The Asians are just about done for which is a shame. We got one good season out of them and the pears were as big as soft balls.

I'm starting to feel like we've hit the trifecta of farming, Marek's disease in our chickens, Fire blight in our pear and apple trees and leaf curl blight in our peach trees. Almost makes me glad we don't have horses, goats or cows. We already tried sheep. They died too.

Maybe I should try ducks...........

Wicked our cows used to get a bunch of our pears from the wind blowing them down. Now that we have moved the fence they get what we let them have. lol

Scg I have to admit that I sometimes feel the same way about adulting time. lol
I would rather be doing other things as well. lol
And even when dh is off work he's either napping or sleeping.

That's the way to do it.

The apple tree is right in the middle of the fenced in area we have for the girls right now...lol.
