I managed to get the inside of the main coop finished. Last winter I had problems with vermin chewing through the wall. A friend gave us a pile of used corrugated metal that I put half way up two was that were not already fully paneled in metal. I then had an open place under the main nesting boxes that I enclosed, sawed out a hole and converted into a nesting box for them The girls are using it anyway as a nesting area. This way I don't have to crawl under the main boxes in order to gather eggs.
From there I hung a tarp over the small coop so the standards have some shelter from the weather besides the coop itself.
I'm pooped.
About 35 years or more ago I remember being out riding my horse when we stumbled upon a wounded pigeon. I was able to catch her and discovered that she had shotgun shot wounds to one wing and a carrier pigeon band on her with a phone number to call in the event she was found. We called the number and the gentleman picked her up that day, thrilled to have her back alive, if wounded. He belonged to a carrier pigeon club in Peoria and had just launched the bird that morning. Never did find out where she was heading when somebody shot her out of the air. I've always liked pigeons for some reason.
Yeah, whenever I freeze beets I make sure to wear thick rubber gloves and still manage to get red freckles all over me.
I'd read that you have to leach acorns at least three times to get rid of the tannin in them. If it isn't necessary with white oak acorns that would be a real treat! Not for me though. Sniff. I'm allergic to tree nuts.

Microchick loves nuts!

I discovered the allergy after eating a huge basket of pistachios...and paid for my folly for days afterwards. Not a good memory.
