@chickisoup,thanks for posting the pictures. I love your setup. I've been reading capricorn farm's coop build feature thread and I am totally impressed with the ideas people come up with to build their coops
Using your breezeway and greenhouse for passive heating in a colder climate is a very clever way to save money. I was showing DH your setup and when he saw your location he asked me how you were heating your greenhouse and if that figured in to your passive heatin?
Tell your hubby that I have done my best to ensure that area is draft free when it's closed up and as long as I keep the snow shoveled off the breezeway roof and the greenhouse, even a moderate amount of sunshine will keep those spaces toasty warm and on bright days, even in the dead of winter it will get so hot I sometimes have to open the greenhouse up. One trick I also did, is the roof vent panel opening for the greenhouse is set so that it opens into the breezeway and the breezeway roof is slanted just enough to draft the warm air right into the coop when needed thru the coop window. The other reason for the greenhouse connection is that it stays warm enough in there the ground never freezes so the birds have a place to dust bathe all winter. I also use it for keeping bedding handy for the coop and my spoiled brats can often be found stretched out sunbathing on the hay bales when it's below zero outside.
I especially like the way you can look out the kitchen window and watch your chickens.
I could not have it any other way! We live in such a predator rich environment (we have bear claw marks in the storage box on our back porch!)that I would go insane if I couldn't look out and check on them! You probably can't tell in the pics, but we have solar powered motion sensor floodlights everywhere.
