The Old Folks Home

@penny1960, generally I do but I was in a hurry the last time I was there and just grabbed a cart and ran with it. I do carry hand sanitizer in my purse and in our cars tho and use it liberally.....when I remember it.

The big problem with shopping carts is that they are germ breeding beds. I read a report once that said that they found a staggering amount of germs on the handles, infant seats and in the cart itself. Everything from EColi down the line to some really really nasty bugs.

Generally I do take the time to grab a handful of wipes and wipe a cart down but this time my bad. I didn't.

The sad thing is that people bring their sick little ones to go grocery shopping. The kiddies grab stuff, mom takes it away from them, sets it back on the shelf, some unsuspecting soul like me comes along and even though the cart is sanitized I pick up the item, put it in my cart and go about my business. Two days later, I'm sick. Sigh.Germs are just everywhere and viruses fill the air. Sometimes you just cannot avoid it.

We both caught H1N1 while at work, the customer looked at us and confessed they were getting a cold but came out anyway as they were trying to get things done before going on vacation. 48 hours later, DH was deathly ill and 24 hours after that so was I. We missed over a week of work and were probably sick enough to go to the hospital but didn't. Later we saw the person and asked them how their vacation was. They said terrible, they were sick the whole time:th:he.
Some people have a tendency to just not consider the possible outcome of going out sick. They will go to church, go shopping,go out to eat all the while spreading whatever they have all over the place. DH and I have weakened immune systems and take care to stay away from kids and crowds during the winter. We buy as much on line as we can but eventually ya just gotta go into town.
It is a real problem!

The drill since I was growing up was to wash hands as soon as we were back from the store. Mom would bleach the glasses anytime someone was sick too.

Micro glad you feeling better.

This cold front gave me a cold.
Next week it will drop into the 30's!
I will have to get the sides and back on the carport to shelter my plants.

Been looking for hotels going to go see my sister for a few days.
I haven't seen her since we left Fl after Ivan.

I was in line behind a woman and her kid who was grabbing things off the shelf at the checkout line, licking and sucking on them, then putting them back, all while open mouth coughing on everything it wasn't sucking on....

As for people that "don't think about doing things when sick", I know that I can't just put my life on hold because I'm sick, I go to work, grocery shop, etc just because if I don't do it, then I won't have a job and I'll be hungry...

I worked at a coke bottling plant for a while and had a nasty bug, coughing, sneezing, running nose so bad I kept a shop rag in my pocket at all times... They put me on the de-pal which is the thing that takes the empty and uncapped bottles off of the pallets and sends them to the filler... I'm sure I had to have dripped snot in at least one bottle, but, I didn't have a choice on if I went to work or where I was stationed when I got there...

Morning gang reading all your posts I know sickest I ever got was Lori was little just starting school then found walking pneumonia 4 times after cancer or ac bc just colds
I am much more aware of my surroundings now also when her kids are sick my caregiver stays home knows better guess I am also fortunate

Yes, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. We ran into that in the medical profession which you think would be a little more forgiving and understanding, but isn't. When DH and I were self employed and he got sick, we couldn't see patients. No patients, no income for either of us. If he got sick and I didn't, I would go in for a half day and hold the fort and then went home to take care of him. Same if I got sick. He would put a message on the office phone telling people he was working alone and please leave a message for him and he would get back to them. Yes, my Dr. husband would answer the phone personally. He is a jewel that is for sure.

Still, if I was sick, no insurance claims were filed, no billing done till I was well. More than once I would tell him to bring me a stack of charts home and I would work on processing when I could whether I was sick or injured. Or he would run off billing for me and I would do that while stretched out on the sofa.

Like @Kusanar pointed out some people just don't care.

I do understand before we moved here had my run of bad caregiver's one was alergic to cats WE HAVE FIVE INSIDE actually asked her to leave... one was afraid of dogs there where 5 of them.... one wanted to stay outside all day and smoke .. then the gal we have these antique snapper mowers then a ranger truck bed trailer I had to get a good run to get it in the bed bought gave her a heart attack

Ron, only the smell was from the glue. Most people wouldn't notice it, but I'm sensitive to it. The taste is from the bladder tank. The bladder is rubberized, so when new, they have that rubber garden hose taste to them. It's not as bad now, so I expect it will be totally cleared up in a couple more days.

I see!
My DW is becoming sensitive to solvents now. She was exposed to a roof cleaning solvent at the school she teaches at last year and passed out

I've always been very sensitive to smells. I hate it when someone lays their head on my pillow. When my daughter went up to KY to go to college, the first trip I took to visit her, I stole one of her T shirts. It had her smell on it. When I would miss her, I would get out the T shirt, and smell it, and good memories would flood my mind. That may sound crazy, but so what?
