The Old Folks Home

It cost so much to keep replacing holding tank and pump for the well (due to all the iron and other gunk in water), it was worth it to get city water & water pressure, so you can still flush if the power goes out.:celebrate
Not an option here. Not even any phone lines run this way.

Ron that's terrible to have to pay that much for water.

We have a well thank the Lord.it has it's downfalls like when the power goes out. But since we had it dug deeper last year it's a lot better now.

However Harvest select is digging abt. 200 more ponds and that may cause our well to go dry again. So I guess we'll see...

I can see the point in that. I've been wondering about this.

My bath is shower only they is a tub in the main bathroom the guys use yes I would play hob getting out of the tub only, the guys only take showers also

 We pay zero, well and septic system.

you pay big if you ever need a new well or your septic goes bad

was a little uncertain when our dream home came with city water but they have no problem with us doing the rainwater for birds and garden

We're on well and septic, too. However, it does cost close to $250 here to pump your tank (usually a yearly affair) AND if your line ever clogs, then it's another $100-200 to have someone come out and snake it. Our well has been fine, but we did get the pressure tank adjusted as it seemed to be kicking on a little too often.

Our well water is VERY high in iron. I have to admit I love the new water system they put in for iron removal. It's a Nelson AIO, with katalox filter media. This area used to have great water. No filter of any kind needed. About 6 years ago, we had a bad drought. The county asked the local farmers to cut back a little on their water usage, if they would. The farms were all still using flood irrigation. Well, the farmers wouldn't. It caused a lot of problems with the water quality. Now, only the older, bigger farms that are grandfathered in, can use flood irrigation, and even they have to upgrade a certain percentage each year to more modern irrigation. The rest had to install modern irrigation. It was a case of too little, too late, but better late than never.

To be honest, I would rather have had sulphur water, than iron water. Sulphur water is easier to deal with filtration-wise. Drink a bit of it, and mosquitoes will hate you. Because it's a gas, the agitation of a washing machine causes it to aerate, so clothes get really clean. It's a natural version of oxyclean.

Peep, I've lived in multiple homes with septic systems, and only ever had to have 1 pumped out 1 time, because my X rented it out. The renter had no idea how to care for a septic system. I lived there 16 years, never had it pumped out again, and it was still fine when I moved out. Talked to MIL, and she never had hers pumped out, and lived there a little over 55 years.
