Trees ... the road was closed.

in Maine, whenever you see a tree, you have to close down the road?

Wow, sounds a bit tricky.. I thought that there were lots of trees up there.

We finally got the wood splitter under cover. It meant shoving things around in the barn to make space for it but we got it done. Seems like we are pretty much ready for winter physically. Mentally, not so sure.

As for septic systems, all we ever had to do to the system back in Illinois was dump a box of Ridex down the toilet once a month and we never had any problems with it. When we sold the house the buyer was getting a loan from HUD rural development something or other. When they did the inspections they started asking questions about the septic system and told them we had never had any problems with it. Next thing we know we are getting phone calls telling us that they can't find it. Huh? Seems as though it was old enough that the top soil had piled up on it and it was deeper than regulation. Huh again? They had to be able to find it. It had to be X number of feet below ground and no deeper Since it was inspected we would have to bring it up to code no excuses. So we had to put a new system in a house that we had sold and would never live in again. We weren't even living in it at the time..

Our homestead doesn't have a sewer or septic system. We have what they call "Over The Hill" where sewage can be discharged into a ravine. No zoning here. The only restriction is that it has to be 100 feet away from your neighbor's property. The only maintenance is that we have to make sure the water flow stays unobstructed every now and then. Usually before winter and after winter. About once a year we consider putting in a real septic system then we think about the one in Illinois that we didn't even get to use once and we forget about it till the next year.

Man, the weeds grow really tall in that area of the property.

Maybe they are scared of trees if the tree doesn't have a ribbon...or...or...or

Drove through there lots of times. I didn't like route 9 much but everything else seemed ok.

Same most places here, holding tank and a overflow.
What 'leach field' ever actually works as designed? Haven't seen any, unless they're out in the bushes where you wouldn't notice anyway.
