The Old Folks Home

This is another reason to try eating as close to whole foods as possible.

I remember when the sea weed craze hit! Will it ever end with adulterating our food for profit?

Lard and butter demonized by companies that make shortening. Sugar industry convincing us that all oils are of the devil. Now Salt is evil when we die very quickly if we do not have enough!

They are very good at it too. I still feel guilty when I have butter or lard even though they are nutritional neutral. Next it will be good for you.

We started using real butter and lard. And for the first time ever my husband and I had lower cholesterol! So don't listen to all this! They want you to keep buying the fake products to keep them from going out of business. lol

That is great news!

There was an article this morning that said new high blood pressure standards are coming. With the new standards, 50% of adults will be listed as high blood pressure. Good news for the Drug Companies!

Yes it is. Thanks.

I know the drug companies are pushing this! I am not taking blood pressure meds!

Not necessarily. My understanding is that they will still be saying "eat less, move more" as ways to reduce your weight (and thus, blood pressure), with "take this pill" being a sort of course to take when all else fails.
I hope so but most Dr.s seem to go for the quick fix it seems.

The new guide is over 130\80 is now high blood pressure

The new 'normal' is anything 130/80 or higher is considered hypertensive range. The old norm was 120/80 with I think, don't quote me, 130/90 or 140/90 being hypertensive and then under that a bracket for 'pre-hypertensive'.

I gave up on that a long time ago. My B/P used to be lower than 100/60. My nursing instructor used me as an example of a functioning hypotensive. Now it around 100/60 if I'm home but at the doctors office will creep up. I've had doctors hit the panic button and put me on antihypertensive drugs because my readings were lightly elevated in the office only to come home, take them and suddenly my b/p is 85 systolic and you cannot even get a diastolic reading it is so low and I can't stand up. I finally tolk the doctor I wasn't going to take anything besides my regular cardiac meds which are also antihypertensive drugs and not take the others unless warrented.

You know your body better than anyone else does and you have to do what is right for it. It does make you wonder what lobbiests for the drug companies are out there beating the drums at the door of the surgeon general's office.

I had the same thing happen at my Dental cleaning a couple of weeks ago. I got a big lecture on BP being too high there. I told him that I was diagnosed with white coat high BP. He finally gave it up.

I was on blood pressure medicine but stopped when I passed out one morning because it was too low.

Mine is usually in the 120 to 130 over 80 range at home. I monitor it and am not worried either.
