The Old Folks Home

I hope so but most Dr.s seem to go for the quick fix it seems.

The new guide is over 130\80 is now high blood pressure
I am on three HBP meds.... and its got my blood pressure down to 145 over 80.... From 189 over 120

This is why I am choosing to do bariatric surgery if they get my current crisis resoved.... I want to live well for the next twenty years.

I had the same thing happen at my Dental cleaning a couple of weeks ago. I got a big lecture on BP being too high there. I told him that I was diagnosed with white coat high BP. He finally gave it up.

I was on blood pressure medicine but stopped when I passed out one morning because it was too low.

Mine is usually in the 120 to 130 over 80 range at home. I monitor it and am not worried either.
I have white coat too.... goes up about thirty points....

Before a diagnosis of hypertension is made, several readings are supposed to be taken over time, including some at home, because a lot of folks have white coat syndrome. Shoot, I get a little bit anxious just making a phone call.
i have my own machine and at first I was taking it about three times per day... amazing how it fluctuates... especially after some exercise.

Under the new guidelines, you might be admitted to the hospital if it goes that high
they tried that ... the longer they kept me in the doctors office the higher it went.... I went to urgent care.... then home. dThen I saw my doc which was an appointment already for the next day...

I am on Metroprpol, Hydrochlorothiazide, and Lisonopril.... then My psychiatrist put me on an anti anxiety med called Buspirone.

so the spikes are controlled somewhat

Not unusual at all for a dentist to take blood pressure when you take into consideration that we used to take B/Ps in my husband's practice. Especially if we had a patient who was on several meds for it and complaining of sudden blurred vision. It was pretty much SOP.

I wouldn't depend on a wrist B/P cuff if you are really trying to get an accurate reading. They can fluctuate a lot with positioning of the wrist being used. I saw them get weird if the person made a fist while it was being used. Electronic are fine but the standard above the elbow ones are the best.

We found that if the wrist was kept at a level with the patient's heart it would be fairly accurate but I can remember one of my aids using a wrist unit and coming back telling me that the patient's B/P was 134/220:thI asked them if that really looked like a reasonable reading? Did they think I was going to accept that reading and handed them a regular cuff and stethoscope and sent them on their way. Patient's real B/P was 120 something over 80 something.

Nurses have been known to have strokes over less.....:barnie
