My neighbor got stung last year by stepping on a ground wasp nest - he didn't notice. After that I checked around my yard and found a hole in the dirt with wasps coming in and out.
I had just bought Sevin powder to deal with wasps that had come in through a tiny opening near the garage outdoor light. So I shook the powder vigorously over the ground nest and then got the heck out of there. When I came back the next day, there was no activity so I stomped the nest flat. Nothing came back.
With different wasps in my garage wall, I needed something with a narrow tip to blast Sevin into the wall space. I had an applicator bottle I used to water house plants. I cut the tip to make it a bit wider - used a funnel to fill the bottle. Then in the dark I got up on a small stool and poofed the bottle hard as I could so it dusted into the opening through to the inside wall. Nothing came out to chase me.
Next morning I gingerly walked into the garage in fear wasps were flying all around.
I needn't have worried. I saw dead and dying wasps coming out from the bottom of wood paneling on the wall. I broomed them outside. I can tell you all, for weeks I was finding dead wasps on the garage floor near the wall. I'd sweep them up and dump them and there were always more. They must have been in the wall for quite some time and I didn't notice.
