The Old Folks Home

Morning everyone.

We had storms rumble through here about 5PM last night. Not much rain but a lot of wind. I went outside once and the rolling thunder was just continuous. Really unusual for this time of year.

This morning the sun is out bright, temp is up to 35 but the wind is brutal. I didn't wear gloves out to take care of the birds and by the time I fastened down a tarp, fetched water and got everywhere fed, my hands were numb. Time to bring in the feed cart to haul water from the house.

I was able to pick up a heated dog dish at Orschelns on Black Friday for only 17.99 with free shipping. SCORE!:celebrate

Country, you are a very talented artist! Are you noticing any fading using the pencils? I use mainly India ink and pencil for sketching but DH just bought me a set of water colors so I'm going to stretch my creative wings a bit. Now to find the time.........................
We got a lot of heavy rain before the snow moved in so when I finally went out to the coop this morning (still snowing and blowing) I had to grab a hammer and beat the locks on the gates and doors to get them open. Girls wisely wouldn't leave the coop/greenhouse all day. Smart chooks.
Good score on the dog dish!

Planting beds and mulching them, check! Fire started and burned, check.

Very nice! Our yardwork is now done for the year. Ground froze and snow is falling. Temp right now is barely above zero F and highs tomorrow in the teens. Next week looking worse so winter has arrived with a mission for us. Time to hybernate.
Do you have hobbies to keep you amused?

Sure, I know the ones you are talking about. I've used Prisma pencils before but tend to prefer acrylic paints for some reason.

It's suddenly winter here. Lows tonight 30 but after tonight looking at the teens.

I've been hunting for eggs for the past three days. Know I have three hens laying right now, but haven't been able to find the eggs....till tonight when I found my 'hankerin for some chicks' bantam hen plopped down in a shadowed corner of their lowest box. She had 7 eggs under her, the little devil. Out they came along with the hen. The below freezing lows should cool off her belly which was nice, humid and hot and the dogs enjoyed the eggs.

Man I feel like the meanest human on earth right now...:hit

We had holly bushes back in IL. They were over 5 feet tall. I would love to find some to plant here. They are great for under the windows to keep bad people from breaking in. Those leaves are brutal. Here I plated spreading junipers against one wall facing the road. They have been growing steadily since I transplanted them in 09 and they were small then, now they are about 8 feet across and 4 feet tall.

You really put a lot of time into those beds, Cap, makes me think of spring.

I have been missing spring bulbs since we left TN. I had a lot of daffodils there. But none in FL.
These hollies have no points on their leaves. The ones i planted near the chicken yard do, and the 10 i am waiting to plant whenever these guys finish the goat barn have berries on them. I wanted to plant them and fence them in but hubby would not go for it.
Tomorrow i hope to plant some seed in behind the goat shed among the trees. Still some dead wood to get rid of there. So perhaps another bonfire will be in order.
