The Old Folks Home

Its all good... what ever the outcome.... though I feel its caught in time...

We miss you...

love deb
Deb glad to hear it sounds like it was caught early. Yet another reminder to us "ahem" older folks to make sure we are getting those preventive checks. I am not a super religious person either but I have seen the power of prayers for folks and I will continue to send healing thoughts your way.

It's snowing in Alabama

I love that you lived in Winter Harbor and needed sweaters.
It was 45 degrees Wednesday and I saw someone out walking in a tank top. It did feel lovely. Not so much today.

Heck, it hasn't even really snowed here. We got a few dustings, and I think tomorrow we're getting 6 inches, but the ground is bare.
There, did I just screw ourselves?

It's 18 degrees here right now. I almost wish it would snow but it has been very dry so far.

As for retiring. It is almost impossible to retire to IL unless you are on a state funded pension...which just about everyone is it seems sometimes because IL broke because of them....The cost of living is high, the taxes are high, the state government restrictions are outrageous. It was time to go when we started looking ahead to retirement. We would really have liked to get farther south for milder winters, but we knew people who had property in the area we are now and they invited us to look the area over. We needed property somewhere we could 'commute' back and forth to our business and start working towards a permanent move.

The first property we bought was tillable with a 36 foot rv on it. The income from the tillable acreage was nice but the land was too flat for us and we would have to build a home at some point so we started looking for 'ridge' property with a house on it. DH and I spent a day every weekend when the weather was nice touring about on our motorcycle looking for property for sale and we eventually found our farm.

Taxes in IL on a quarter acre lot with a 50 yr old ranch style home on it were almost 2000 dollars. Here we have almost 30 acres with a house, barn and shed and we pay under 800$ on property taxes. Car license in IL are over 100$ per vehicle. Here they are something like 30$. It was a no brainer for us.

We love Missouri. The atmosphere here is completely different than it is in Illinois and we wish we could have retired sooner than we did.

@maddysmamaw, Maddy is growing like a weed. Such a pretty little girl. Give her a hug for us!
